In lugnet.admin.general, "Ed Jones" <edboxer@aol.com> writes:
b  Do boldface through the end of line
i  Do italics through the end of line
c  Center the rest of the line
  *  Make a bulleted paragraph
  ]  Indent the paragraph
Indent the paragraph and use the <blockquote> font

Don't laugh -- it's from a fairly popular groupware product.

I don't think it's worth our considering at all for LUGNET purposes (way too
obscure and hard to remember, IMO), but I thought it was interesting how
*different* various text-markup methods could be.  Wow!

Reconsider not considering it.  [...]

Huh?!  Why?  It's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen!  A single
character in column 1 to modify the entire line?  That's somewhat intuitive
for *, ], and >, but for b and i and c it's pathetic.

And add spell checking as well.  To those of
you who read my posts, spellchecking would be a welcome relief (you don't
need to search Dejanews for proof).  And I'd love to be able to format text in
posts to LUGNET.

Chell specking would be fun.

Anyway, it was an example of simple little ASCII-based markup languages --
one of which needs to be chosen for member-pages.  Wasn't looking for
something to enhance news posts, although if it fit in nicely and
transparently, it wouldn't probably hurt.

(...) Whoops -- ambiguity alert again... Darn it, when will I learn to write?! By "it" in "if it fit in nicely," I meant whatever markup is chosen for member-pages, not the one mentioned three nodes up on the thread. (Darn antecedents! :-) --Todd (25 years ago, 5-Jul-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) I'm in shock. I guess you were never as DOS based as I was. B I and C were the keys in Word Perfect( and several other Dos based word processors) for those exact commands (usually with the <ALT> or <CTRL> key). (25 years ago, 5-Jul-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)
