Containers are not as wide as trains!  Sure, they are close, but with trains
being 10' wide, represented as 6 studs, then an 8' wide container should be
4.8 studs wide.  If you round it to the nearest stud, then it would be 5
wide by 12long for an HCL and 5 x 24for an FCL.

If you round it to the nearest even stud length, then it would be 4 studs
wide.

Using 8 wide trains, containers should be 6.4 studs wide, which rounds to 6
wide x 16 long for an HCL and 32 long for an FCL.  If you choose to give
container proportions a priority over absolute scale, then 6x15 and 6x30
will work.

Containers are not as wide as trains and never should be.

So I did. :-) (1)

Nice model James. VERY However I would say, why compress it? Try it with • the
power unit able to carry 2 containers... (although actually, if you use • the
standard 4x8 container, I suspect it WILL carry two..) So what I mean is 2 • of
your larger containers...

4 wide containers are a thorn in the side of 6 wide designs... containers
really should have been 6 wide too (there is ONE example of TLC 6 wide
containers out there, an older MAERSK set, I believe, but it's swamped • with
these 4 wides we have now.. sigh)

1 - who else can I tease into making something neat?? :-)

(...) Agreed. However the 4 wides just look funny. They're not even tall enough for a minifig to stand up in, and we know how short those guys are. :-) I'll probably just lump it, but I'll continue to whinge (an OZ word!) about it nonetheless. Would (...) (24 years ago, 28-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains)

(...) I hate to be the one to point this out, but it should be 5x12 for a TEU. TEU is the base unit for containers, ISO standards are 8'6" (high) x8'(wide) by 20'(long) (if I have it wrong, it is the high and wide mixed up), and everything is based (...) (24 years ago, 29-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains)
