Well, It just has to be the Mallard. World famous, fast, impressive
streamilned shape and well-represented with standard Lego colours.
Will need BBB wheels but could get away without the rods as the skirts cover
a large proportion of the drivers. Put the motor in the 8-wheel corridor
tender, add the crew and there you have a little piece of rail history in
Lego.
This would be my choice for the loco. To go with it, a wonderful white-rooved
teak-panelled luxury LNER dining coach using the 6x1 timber printed tiles
and....a working dynomometer car. The Dyno car was used as part of the seven
coach set when the Mallard broke the world speed record in 1938. You could
use a track-driven rotational output to operate recording equipment inside
the car which would be complete with boffins and geeks studying the graphs
and dials.
