Well I think you know how I stand now :-).

I do understand the other side of the debate though because up until about 7 or
8 months ago I was strongly in the anti-sticker camp.  I didn't even think LEGO
stickers should be used.  In some cases I still don't.  If the stickers don't
trully add something to the model I say don't do it.  If it's just a raceing
stripe or something simple I generally say I can do without.

On the other hand there are some things that just can't be done with the brick.
My plunge into the dark side of stickers began with the GMLTC Kidvention/PNLTC
World Record Boxcars.  I did one for NELUG and the only way to convey what it
was, was with stickers.

Since then I have used them a couple other times but I have always been a big
fan of the Boston & Maine.  I had my engine built and my caboose and whenever
someone saw it they would say "Oh a Conrail Engine!" and it just wasn't worth
explaining that to me it wasn't.  I couldn't print out my own stickers in this
case because they are white and my printer does not print white.  I finally set
out in earnest to find some appropriate decals and finally found what I was
looking for at the Greenberg show NELUG was participating at.  On Saturday I
bought one sheet of decals (these are decals not stickers which makes them even
more permanent).  I liked them so much I bought 2 more sheets on Sunday and did
the Caboose at the show and am saving the other sheet for future use.

Again I never could have gotten the effect I did without stickers.  Some would
say that it isn't purist of me and they would be right but, I am a LEGO fan
first and a Model Railroad fan second.  These are "official" model railroad
decals so to me it is just a bonding of 2 of my favorite hobbies.  (Actually
they are literally bonded now because of the decals :-).

It all comes down to a matter of personal preferance though and I am not here
to convince anyone to change their mind one way or another.

I'm *really* warming up to them lately. I've been tempted (especially after
getting a 8448) to simply go to brickbay and buy all the same pieces that
have to have stickers on them and simply 'double up' on those pieces that
would have stickers on them. I did this for the 8448 and it was really cool
because the stickers just complete the model. I'm tempted to do the same for
the silver champion and go ahead and put stickers on that one too.

Thats a pretty good idea, fortunately for the train I mostly covered standard
Blue bricks.  Probably the rarest piece I covered was a blue 2x2 low slope peek
which I have a few extras of anyway.

As an aside, damn, that train looks freakin' awesome!

Thanks!
