Ahhh, I would love to see it done :-)

I know this sounds a little naive, but what is a release-free switch, and what would it be used for?

Billy.

Hi Billy,

A LEGO pneumatic switch has four ports. You are probably familiar with the obvious three: left, center and right.

The fourth port is not obvious.

When you’ve got pressure on one port of the piston, and you switch the switch so you get pressure on the other port of the piston, the switch must release the pressure from the first port. This is the little breathing sound you hear pneumatics make when you switch pneumatic switches under pressure.

The air comes out of the piston, and back to the switch (using the same hose that delivered pressure). The air then escapes to the atmosphere through the switch handle opening.

The LEGO switch could be much more usable if the release pressure came out of the switch through a regular port. Hydraulics would be much easier if all four ports on the switch were usable.

Kevin
