Just came across youre discussion, and I thought this might help... Lego is usually a bit overreacting whit the systemrequirements. I've runned RIS 1.5 on an 486 whit 20 MB ram and 1 MB video,and the sysreq's from lego said it required an (...) (23 years ago, 21-Mar-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

I am getting a common (apparent in the legos newsgroup) error "Error 53: Opening //./legotower1" when I try to download a program. I do successfully use firmdl3 to download the kernel even using the --tty=usb option. But when I try to download a (...) (22 years ago, 24-Jun-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

(...) Theresa, If you're using LegOS (not BrickOS), then I believe the answer is that you can't get around it. I don't think LegOS works with the USB tower. You'll need to go with a version of BrickOS (which doesn't yet have a cool install like (...) (21 years ago, 1-May-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  USB on winXP/2k problem: cannot download
 
Dear All, I have installed cygwin, compiled brickOS and tried to download the firmware and software. I cannot make firmdl3 or dll to work: "Error 2: Opening USB" The same error when the tower is attached and when it is not. I can download the (...) Mason, As fas as I know the usb support under linux it's not finished, some part (such as receiving works, but it's not transparent, as if you had the serial tower). You can check the current satus at: (URL) way would be to run cygwin under windows (...) (21 years ago, 9-May-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  MacNQC 4.05b, RCX 1.0 and OS X 10.4.6 can't program the brick
 
Hello with a query from the past... I used MacNQC for ages on other computers but I find now that I can't write a program out to an RCX 1.0 brick using MacNQC 3.04 or 4.05b. I can send the firmware with no problem but when I try to download a (...) (15 years ago, 22-May-09, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

(...) Pat, Lejos 2.1.0 includes JNI libraries that support all forms of RCX comms. The PC Tower class interfaces with serial and USB towers. It lets you send and receive standard Lego packets. On my machine (Win2000) where I have both a serial Spybotics cable and a RIS USB tower, I have to specify the port that BricxCC must use. Hello, I'm trying to get a recent brickOS (0.9.0) working on Mac OS X 10.4.3. I have an RCX 2.0 with the USB tower. I have a cross-compiler (gcc 3.2.2) that apparently works, and using the firmware download program included with lejOS (specially (...) (19 years ago, 22-Nov-05, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos, lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Would it be possible to have two RCX's communicate back and forth with a single PC by using two Infrared towers? By enclosing one tower/RCX pair in a box you could isolate the RCX's from interrupting each other's communications. I'm guessing that (...) (21 years ago, 25-May-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
