there are two assemble-time constants LCD_ROWS and LCD_COLS that can be changed to build new versions of the pcode_hb.s19 file for different LCDs. but is sounds like your 20x4 display is incompatible altogether---you should see something. i would (...) (...) Thanks Fred. Turned out I had a damaged MAX232 chip on the charger board that was powering up the handyboard via the TXD or RXD line. Once the chip was removed the 1.4V on the handyboard went away. I believe this also damaged the HC11, so now (...) (28 years ago, 2-Jul-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Hi Curt, something is wrong with your board. 1stly, the red LED should be completely off when in boot download mode. this is stated repeatedly in the doc's, but i reiterate it here. 2nd, you should not have 1.4v on the CPU when pwr is off. i don't (...) Help! I'm trying to get my handyboard to go into download mode via the STOP/Power-On sequence, and it doesn't go into the correct mode. The PWR LED doesn't go out when I do this sequence. (...) I agree that the "software" solution in an HC11 is limiting. It is this limitation that I am trying to overcome in hardware. (...) Actually an 'HC11 isn't a very efficient PWM controller. However a Microchip PIC is. (or a Motorola 68HC05, or a Siemans 87C752, etc) These single chip microcontrollers are both cost effective and easy to use. In the July (or August) '95 issue (...) My earlier posting has left me thinking.. (Suprise!) A MUCH more efficient way of doing PWM would be to use another 'HC11. I have replaced every ic with the ic's from a working handy board, and have tested each trace from all 4 of the ic's that were installed (6811, 132, 62256 and the (...)
