To get a PDA to interface to RCX is easy, i am right in thinking that TV
remote is the same freqency etc as RCX? If so go to pdawin.com and get
TVRemote http://www.pdawin.com/tvremote.html i use version 3.1 which can
learn commands, and we can display this on the PC and control from PC.
Simple! ;)
Now there are TV remotes that are computer controlled, so we don't even • have
to move our opposable thumb? Technology strides ever forward :PPP
Yep its brilliant isn't it :) you can even do the whole house via the PC and
x10 if u want :)

How would you get the TV remote control to talk to BrickOS or the RCX
software though?
As this is meant to be a roverbot, i was envisiging learning the RCX remote
control buttons to send mssg A and therefore make it go forward 5cm etc etc.
Ie RCX does nothing but start stop motors, the only prob is there is no way
to O/P info from sensors, only the camera :(

Also you could add a wifi card and PC Card expansion jacket and do • control
wirelessly not via USB. Please also note control here could be direct
control, or your programme clicking screen like a macro.
I don't understand you. The WiFi would flash the RCX at 1200/2400 baud?
sorry may have confused those of u without Ipaq's, the jacket and wifi card
are for the ipaq, so u mount it on your rover, along with a wireless camera
and its no strings attached ;)

Steve suggested opening the RCX and "soldering a serial cable onto the • UART"
(my quote, not his). If that is doable it would be cheaper and adequate?

The most immediate IR way to do it would still be connecting a Lego IR • tower
to the PDA, but you might have to make your own sending program.
I dunno if u can connect a tower, its probably doable
