No. DO NOT UNDER ANY CONDITION CONNECT AN ELECTROLYTIC (ie one with +/- on the terminals) IN REVERSE. The electrolyte is a high resistant in one direction only. The other direction is nearly a short. To make a passive light sensor, you can use a design like Michael Gasperi's: (URL) costs only a couple bucks, and works quite well. If you would like better response from your lego light sensor, you can use a piece of black shrinkwrap tubing and (...) (24 years ago, 28-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Hi Chris, You can turn off the LED with software though you may be a little disappointed with the light sensitivity. The reason the LED is on is because your program has set the sensor to an active sensor. If you set the type to NONE make the mode (...) (24 years ago, 28-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

This sounds very cool. If you want to do the mapping at the bottom, you will have to use alternitive firmware anyway (right?), and they have a passivate command that turns off the light. It passivates the sensor, but I don't think standard firmware (...) (24 years ago, 28-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Has anyone successfully found a way (short of paint, or cutting internal wiring) of shutting off the red 'supply light' LED on the Lego light sensor? The supply LED is great for active-detection situations, like line-following, when you need to (...) (24 years ago, 28-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

That's right - it only needs to protect the capacitor from wrong polarity, but does not have to compensate. Maybe the instructions simply say "if it doesn't work, rotate the connector 90 degrees". Maybe the LED gives some indication if it is (...) (24 years ago, 28-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

If I read correctly, it sounds as if there are + and - signs on the capacitor, which would imply that there is something that would block an incorrect polarity on the terminal. Maybe the diode and the 2 transistors on the board do this, I do not (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Right, what I was trying to say is that a bridge can't 'invert' a DC input of one polarity to make an output of another polarity - it can't "correct" anything, a diode can only conduct or not conduct. I had done a project that integrated the Neural Network and Fuzzy Logic into the RCX for Navigation by legOS. Of course, the network models are simple due to the limited recources. This whole Lego capacitor thing strikes me as somewhat intriguing. The super-caps, which are doubtless used, absolutely cannot be charged backwards, they have to have the correct polarity. And all the Lego electrical "stuff" like the RCX sensors, (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Hi All, Although I started with NCQ I've used Gordon's Brick Programmer quite a bit. Its neat for putting things together quickly and I use the library import screen a lot to reuse bits from old projects. I'd like to hear about how other people use (...)
