Hmmm, well, I took another semi-teaser of the ship in
"fitting-out" (albeit without her stern 20% in place--
the ship's too long for the room otherwise) as it stands
  this evening:

She's just beautiful (or with a male name and a German ship, would we say
he's beautiful?)

Just beautiful.

Thanks, it's a ton of work and a ton of tan.  Am I goofy for
wishing there was a colder lighter tan?  (Not the Belville
   tan, btw...)

As for the ship name, I must point out that HMS Agamemnon is
a "she", yet has a clearly male-originated name.  Considering
how much the German Admiral Staff idolized the Royal Navy,
I'd bet FdG was a "she" when named by English-speakers.  The
noun "Schiff" is, however, neuter (just as in Dutch).

Take a look.  Unfortunately the turrets are a bit on the
"British" side--and they resemble much more closely German
predreadnought turrets than dreadnought turrets--but I like
the way these look.  You can see all five of them, three in
place and two more just cluttering the deck.  What a mess!

I like 'em.  I need to get in closer though :-)

   Ask and ye shall receive:

They're bad pictures because I don't have my tripod and I
have nasty arthritis.  But the basic construction ought to
   be clear!

BTW, "X" barbette is complete, and it's virtually round!
It's a handy idea for those who want to build big storage
tanks or supersize alcohol casks.  ;)  Water towers might
also profit from a variant of this.

I'm not sure how useful it is for building anythng smaller
than 16-wide, however.  I wonder if I ought to tell the
   Trainheads?

I have to have it around in case we decide to use a Class
15-thousand-whatever ship in the Pirate Game (not bloody likely)

Sounds good to me.  We're still tacking towards a piratefest over here, and
I had idly wondered how turning up in a 1940's kit British Hunt Class
Destroyer Escort would work out ;-)  I figure just being able to run
directly into the wind would have to be one heck of a tactical advantage.

Not necessarily true, as the battle of Lepanto (1571) showed.
But then again, we'd like to think our engines are more reliable
than galley slaves.  ;)  (Although the Brazilian Chibata Revolt
of 1911 (IIRC) proved that one wrong, too.)

   best

   Lindsay

Another fine evening of work. Look at it go! It's now officially too big to move into another room in one piece, now that it has a stern (but no fantail yet--darn this fitting-out process!): (URL) I'm definitely in the "I don't own enough LEGO" and (...)
