  Re: De-lurk/Introduction/CS Contest Entries/SW MOC

Hi Paul! GREAT DESIGN! I did not compete in teh design contest, but I have only one question: Are we able to use non-classic pieces? The wheels you used as engines are perfect, but I don't know if they were part of the classic series. But I still (...) Hi Everyone - I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster. My name is Paul. I'm 32 years old and live in the San Francisco Bay area. I'm a graphic designer by trade, recently married, and I love Lego. By now my story is a familiar one - I packed up (...) (26 years ago, 28-Nov-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.space, lugnet.starwars, lugnet.people, lugnet.build.contests)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

I came out of my dark ages in late 1995. At the time I was interested in my old Atari computers and was reading the comp.sys.atari.8bit newsgroup. Occasionally, I would glace through other newsgroups and one day saw rec.toys.lego. What intrigued me (...) (26 years ago, 27-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

(...) Maybe not so interesting but here it is. My dark ages started around 1984-1985, the time I started high school. Actually my interest continued through the years in some extend. (I didn't give away Lego to nieces / cousins etc., although I give (...) (26 years ago, 27-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

Well my dark age started about 1988, i was starting High School and it just wasn't cool to like LEGO so it gradually got put away.... The Dark has only just lifted in the last month or so, I have a young nephew who loves cars, bikes and the like so (...) (26 years ago, 26-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

I came out of my dark ages because I bought a house that had an extra room I wasn't using. Previous to this, I had a small, 1 bedroom condo. All my childhood LEGO was packaged up at my parents house. At Christmas, I would get out my pre-dark-ages (...) (26 years ago, 26-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

(...) My exit from my Lego Dark Ages was prompted by fatherhood. My son, Spencer, was born in 1996. I bought him some Duplo when he was two. He enjoyed it well enough, but preferred his Matchbox cars. Last year, my folks instructed me to clear the (...) (26 years ago, 25-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

David!! Your story is so similar to mine!!... I don't remember a moment in my childhood when I didn't have my LEGO out and ready to build. In 87 we moved from Calgary, Alberta to Denmark, and two years later moved back to Canada, but to Vancouver. (...) (26 years ago, 25-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

(...) I have always loved building blocks, Lincoln Logs, etc. but I didn't discover Legos until 3 years ago!!! Absolutely fell in love with them even though I am almost 40 now and mother of 3 boys! Surprised everyone when I insisted all I wanted for (...) (26 years ago, 25-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

(...) <nod, nod> I never had a true dark age, but I had a few years of "dim ages" in which I only went up to the attic (the "lego" room) once in a few months... it went off and on. I had more weird looks from my family than from my friends; my older (...) (26 years ago, 25-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

heh, I almost didn't have a choice... I stopped playing with lego, gradually, sometime around '87... Just tapered off. But when I came over to the US, to visit Jennifer, I saw all her lego collection assembled, and that really brought back (...) (26 years ago, 25-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

(...) My dark ages started sometime around '88. I was 12, and as I recall, some of my friends were telling me I was a little immature to have bunches of Lego still lying around. Of course I always told them I never played with them, being the brave (...) (26 years ago, 25-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

Well, my dark ages began early 80s (81? not sure) The last set I bought was the 8860 car chassis. It ended when I saw a Mindstorms. Just had to have it. My childhood Lego had been left packed up at my step-dad's house, and luckily hadn't been (...) (26 years ago, 25-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

(...) Well I've never truly been in or out of a dark age that I can pinpoint. In some ways I am currently in a dark age in that about a year and a half ago I left for college and left LEGO with my youngest brother at home. Despite the fact that I (...) (26 years ago, 24-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

(...) It was early 1998. I had a nice collection of LEGO models assembled, including Adventueres, Extreme Team, Aquaraiders, and my beautiful <set:4554 Metro Station> I'm not sure what happened. I was eleven, and perhaps I took the box too literally (...) (26 years ago, 24-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

My Dark Age started about the time I got my drivers license. It ended 8 years later when I picked up the X-Wing fighter. Thank goodness for the Star Wars sets, otherwise my Dark Age may not have ended. Since picking up the X-Wing I've easily doubled (...) (26 years ago, 24-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

My dark ages lasted about 10 years, from age 16 to 26. I was in a Toys R' Us about two years ago, just looking around, and decided to check out the Lego section to see what the sets were looking like these days. A few town sets caught my eye and (...) (26 years ago, 24-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)

Re: How did you come out of your Dark Ages?

(...) My case is very particular; I have always loved Lego since I was very small. The thing is that I live in Venezuela, and Lego doesnt have offices here, so basically Lego sets are imported goods, and VERY expensive. I am talking about 300% US (...) (26 years ago, 24-Nov-00, to lugnet.people)
