no... I mis spoke.  my EOAT is a simple mechanical device; it still uses
a light sensor to sort.

I was trying to explain to the guys that this concept is nothing fancy.
but it work(ed) well


You could just
drive your robot around to the opponent's side as the first thing, and then pick
out all the white blocks.

this is my last hope idea.  I'll try to make it work. but with the
hardware I have... I don't seem to be having any luck seeing the black
bricks.

(...) I think he was being sarchastic. What I think we're all having a hard time understanding, is why this is such a problem? Just change your light sensor values.
