Well, I sort of imagined the layout of the entire thing would be more-or-less something like this:

...Where there’s an initial “buffer” of free pallets, waiting to enter the system, and then you have them advancing into one of several work cells. Each work cell could be delegated out to an individual (some people could do more than one cell, if they’re ambitious). Each cell would have a function and we’d have to decide the assembly order of little rover, too.

And of course, before any of that begins, we have to nail down what the assembly pallet will be on top of the carrier, so then everyone can work on their own from there.

I’m really excited about this!

As for the carriers/pallets, I think to get around having to use a lift/locate, we could have the assembly fixture on the top of the carrier “lose” - that it can lift up slightly. When the carrier drives toward the final stop, the light sensor on the front reads a slow-down/stop target (white/black tiles on the track, whatever). When it gets close, ramps/slides that are stationary lift and guide the pallet into place accurately. You can see in the Montrac video how this is done on the locate stops, where the fixture plate on the top of the shuttle rolls onto some bearings. They have a shotpin that comes out to stop it in just the right spot, which we could do easily with a micromotor or something else on the pallet to locate it lengthwise (axis parallel with direction of travel).

The track will have to be either 4.5V track or the new 9V plastic non-electrified track.
