Whoooohooo! That’s me! I’ve been to Morgantown, West Virginia!

Anyway, I’m going woefully off topic. This is a 4-wheel steer chassis that can hug 9V monorail guideway. The idea being we could have a nice, rigid

Okay, there’s something off the bat I’m worried about, which is that you’ve built the track out of unobtanium, aka, monorail track. No one has any of it and it’s more expensive than goat horns or robot testicles. Can this run on 4.5V track or something?

  • Because we’re not relying on a fixed gear ratio on the motors, we can use any motor we like; in this case, I’ve got a 9V gearmotor in a 3:1 reduction to the “recycle truck” tires. This makes things much easier to control.
  • The chassis size is larger and far more robust.
  • The centre of gravity of the chassis and assembly pallet is much lower, making it more stable.

Is this method more accurate than the train motor for being in the same place every time for part placement?

Calum

(...) Hahaha :) The advantages of using the monorail track are that it's very, very rigid laterally (like, it can really press into it without it deflecting at all) and simple to construct. It's a wide, flat surface... the 4.5 V rails I fear will (...) (18 years ago, 5-Feb-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto, FTX)
