  Newest cars from Detroit

I was at the Detroit show today. Wow! What a show. There were tons of great new vehicles introduced. Instead of telling you about them, here are some direct links: CHEVY AVALANCHE-a new cross between SUV and pick-up (URL) AZTEK-a new cross between (...)   Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) put a spoiler on the back, so what? This is what, a 1996 body style? At least that's what the URL you gave shows. Perhaps they have a new body at the auto show but why repeat Daimler marketing hype here? Also at least one of the other sites (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) You have to click on those zoom in photos. The photo you see on the exact page is a 2000 ES model. Though the 2001 Caravan is very similar to the 1996 (which was the point), though shares few parts. They spent $2.8 billion with the new line. (...)   Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) Tell me how you feel about the FIAT Multipla. Despite quite liking most Fiats, or at least not minding them, this has _got_ to be the ugliest car ever invented. The sheer horror of seeing one on the streets, which means it actually _sold_ at (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) That reminds me of a car my father told me about: The Marlin. It was produced in the '60s or '70s, and he told me about some party or event he went to where they were giving away one as a door prize. He said no one entered the contest because (...)   Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) I love the Multipa. Radical and not very pretty, but oh so practical and innovative. Though I never thought Fiat would do it., produce such a radical car that is. I first saw the concepet in Turin and was amazed they built it. Too bad the only (...) (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) If you want one o' them small numbers, get an A-class, a Smart, or any of the Japanese H-types. There's plenty that's just as small, and look a lot better. Maybe not in the US, though. You know what the Multipla really reminds me of? Ctulhu. (...) (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) The A-Class is not here yet, though Mercedes-Benz is preparing the launch. DaimlerChrysler wants to open up Smart Centres in Miami, Tampa Bay, Detroit, San Diego, LA, San Fransisco, and New York, though no launch date yet. (...) In the US, (...)   Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) Trust me. The Smart may be ugly, but compared to the Multipla... (...) Well, $30k isn't truly luxury by my standards. Only 3 times the smallest car. I suppose it helps that I live in a neighbourhood where the neighbourhood pub regularly (...) (25 years ago, 15-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) You are 100% right ! The Multipla is probably the ugliest car of the new millenium and what is worse it come from a country (Italy) that has always been known as the land of nice styling for car, fashion etc. And I think it will take more (...)   Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) It is not luxury by my standards either, though the industry considers anything above $32,000 luxury. However, you have to remember that in the US, luxury comes in much cheaper. An Acura (Honda) 3.2TL with leather, wood, 5- speed automatic, (...) (25 years ago, 16-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) Well, nothing named Honda can ever be luxury <nudgenudgewinkwink>. (...) Don't use the UK prices to compare with the US, though. The UK is hideously overpriced by even European standards. UKers can go to the Netherlands by Eurotunnel, order a (...) (25 years ago, 17-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) That is why they give it an Acura nameplate like Toyota/Lexus (...) Yes, I completely understand the UK is the higest price, but Finland (not Sweeden) is the lowest price and still more expensive. Denmark has the higest price American cars. (...)   Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) I don't think we get either of those nameplates here in Europe. Not in .nl, anyway. (...) Well, duh. Cadillacs aren't manufactured in Europe, shipping costs are huge. Let's use something Ford-branded for comparison, they're available over here (...) (25 years ago, 18-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) Yes, but that is my point. Land Rover's are made in the UK yet are still cheaper in the US. A Mercedes-Benz E430 cost $10,000 less in the US than in Germany, even though it is made in Germany (or Austria, depends on if you order RWD or 4WD). (...)   Re: Newest cars from Detroit

Being the Hummer fan I am How was the GM HUMMER H2 up close & personal? I think that AM General should not have sold the Hummer to GM (I own a Chevy Truck) because they will fit it in an SUV class (where it does not belong) The best thing about the (...)   Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) It was a nice design and I like it. I would never pay $80,000+ for an H1 (the new name for Hummer), but I would gladly pay the estimated $40,000 for an H2. I like Hummers, but they are too rough and un-civilian. I have a friend who owns a red (...) (25 years ago, 23-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Newest cars from Detroit

(...) Ugh. IMHO, in spite of their snazzy looks and admirable power, those things shouldn't be on the road in the numbers they are. That goes for most ultra-giant "Luxury SUVs" as well--the majority of people who drive them in the US have no (...) (25 years ago, 23-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
