BMG has always had a bad online presence. Evidence for the prosecution:
In 1995, they had a presence on CompuServe. The customer service contact
'interface' consisted of a line-based text entry system. The customer was
responsible for entering up to 3, 72-character lines, with correct
placement of line breaks. Made a mistake on a previous line? Too bad. No
backing up.
When they first started their web site, the start page had a huge
(relatively speaking) image-map graphic, which amounted to 'click here to
join' and 'click here if you're a member'. The selection was worse than
what was offered in the monthly mailings (now that makes a lot of sense).
An improved site was promised, but not delivered for several years. During
those years, there were warnings that the site would only work on Netscape
2.0 compatible browsers. I don't know about you, but I'm not down-grading
for anything.
