Dave: thousands of people die each year in auto accidents. We have traffic laws, but sometimes they don’t work. Often, in fact. Is the solution to ban the automobile? The sad fact is that shit happens.

How regulated are automobiles? how insured? How licenced? And we’re now comparing accidents to mass murder?? When was the last time a guy took out a school full of kids with a car?? I haven’t seen that headline.

Shit happens and 26 people are murdered. Yeah, I would love that blase attitude.

We are a BIG country, so the analogy breaks down, IMO. Further, there are already a brazillion guns in this country already-- eliminating then would be next to impossible. It would be Deja Prohibition all over again.

So because the cause, even though it’s just and best for your society, isn’t worth the undertaking because it’s too difficult? Wow, you Yanks have come along way (backwards) since the ‘60’s.

It’s more of a pragmatic issue. Banging our proverbial heads against a wall isn’t going to change anything, so why even attempt it? There is a better solution somewhere. As I mentioned before; I believe that technology will solve this problem better than some rapid, knee-jerk, stopgap measure.

Tech? I’d love to see chips implemented on guns that would only allow lawful owners fire them (a la last bond movie). Let me know when that happens. I’ll be the first to sign up. Until such time, let’s get these AR15’s off the street. Let’s get these 30 round clips melted down into plowshares. THere is absolutely NO justifiable need for any civilian to own one of these guns or to have large clips of ammo. None.

Really? Trying to limit the carnage and death of your fellow citizens is worse than doing nothing?

you’re beter than that.

What I mean is that a solution that exacerbates the problem is worse than doing nothing. For example, some want to repeal the 2nd Amendment. YOU might think that it is a good idea, but it isn’t. Really.

YOu and larry think that taking AR 15’s away from the populace will exacerbate the situation--where’s your study? where’s your proof? Reducing clip sizes will cause *more* carnage--really?? That’s what will happen??? Other countries have bans on these weapons--I don’t see them havng large amounts of issues with massacres. I don’t see gun-related violence increasing due to the reduction of guns.

Get out of your cocoon. You were in Canada a few months back--did it feel ‘less safe’ up here to you? Really? Did it?
