Are you referring to Squaresoft?

Scott Sanburn

Yes, Squaresoft is their US name.  I'm bitter over what games they decide not
to translate and bring to the US, and the direction of their current games.
Not all of my complaints are their fault, though, as in the case of FF2 and
FF3.  Those where canned by Nintendo(1), not Square.  Games I really wish had
come out here: FF4(2), FF5, Bahamut Lagoon, Treasure Hunter G, Romancing SaGas
1-3, and Seiken Densetsu 3(3).  As to the directions of their current games,
the advancing technology of FF6-8(4) have really pissed me off.  The Game time
of Parasite Eve, Dew Prism, and Vagrant Story(5) is also just plain nuts.
Also, the Dropping of FF4 from FF Anthology bugged me to no end.

On the upside, we will be getting FF5 for PSX, Legend of Mana, Crono Cross, a
Crono Trigger PSX Rerelease.  Square has also put out some great games
recently, including Xenogears and FF Tactics.  Not to mention the rumor that
FF9 will be returning to its medieval roots, which, if true will bring me great
joy!  Of course, there is also the rumor that Nobuo Uematsu will not be on
board for it.  :(

Jeff

1 - They said they were exactly like FF1, which is complete BS.

2 - While we got FF4 as FF2, it was the 'Easytype' version, not the original.

3 - They translated 60%, then canned it.  So instead of getting the Highly
anticipated sequel to Secret of Mana, we get... Secret of Evermore!  :(

4 - I'd rather play FF1 than FF7.  Kinda says anything about my opinion of FF7,
doesn't it?

5 - IIRC, it is 10, 7, 9 hours respectively.  These are called 'Weekend
Rentals'.

Jeff, Uh-oh, I opened up another can of worms. :) I understand completely, I feel almost the same in terms of their haphazard FF releases. I like FF7, only because it is still a decent game, I think I like FF2 (4) and FF3 (6) and FF1 the best. I (...) (25 years ago, 3-Aug-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
