DO NOT BID on that lot because you saw it here. I'm just in a hurry

Hrm.  No offense, but how is "just in a hurry" different from "just lazy"?
(The word "lazy" being a word someone else used recently to explain how his
auction announcement wound up in .buy-sell-trade...)

And should that be a viable justification for drawing attention one's own
auction currently underway???

I think we're going to have a hard time totally eliminating references
to auctions, and perhaps we have to look at content and purpose of the
post over all. It was clear to me that Larry was offering a kickback for
signing up using him as the referral, he just chose to point to one of
his auctions for details, because he was in a hurry (given that this is
a hobby, I think we need to accept some "posting in a hurry" type of
stuff) and he has auction text which is very well thought out, and may
not have it handy somewhere else (and someone would still take offense
if he pointed to his boilerplate probably - part of the problem
identified with Scott's post is that it pointed to the proposed text for
his auction to be).

I think a good number of us trust Larry's intentions, and if he can have
good intentions, yet still be lazy, should we probe other peoples
intentions too deeply. To be fair, we need to not take peoples personal
stature in the community too much into account (though there are times
when it is appropriate) in deciding how to handle situations. Over all,
what I want to see is a generally relaxed but firm attitude. If someone
steps out of line, let's not go ballistic, but let's work on how to
minimize or eliminate that type of transgression in the future, or
decide that that type of thing is ok.
