NO! At least originally, spam had nothing to do with whether it was
commercial or not. It was ANY new posting sent to a large list of newsgroups
(I don't think it even necessarily has to be inappropriate for the
newsgroups). When the term originated, there was almost no commercial use of
the newsgroups (in the sense of soliciting business, there were plenty of
corporations using news to communicate technical [and recreational]
knowledge).
