It seems that Lego is doing a good job of confusing the consumers. I think a
lot of people will be expecting Hogwarts Castle to be a Castle in the Lego
theme sense (meaning a medieval structure intended to be defended with
weapons), when it really isn't. I guess it's got to be called Hogwarts
Castle because it's called a castle in the book, but from the book, it's
fair to say from the descriptions that it's more of your Victorian era manor
house, big building, lots of floors, lots of rooms, lots of little
staircases, lots of little turrets. And Lego's interpretation of HC reflects
this more Victorian style structure.

Yes, I think a lot of younger children would prefer the KLB "action" castle
over HC. Certainly I think any HP set would be less interesting if you had
not read the books and did not know the situation and characters.

For the record, here are the "hidden secrets of HC":
dining hall: chimney opens to reveal Peeves, treasure hidden in fireplace,
treasure hidden under Dumbledore's seat (well, I assume it's his seat, it's
in his colour scheme: purple/yellow)
Griffindor tower: turn the wall and the fireplace turns to reveal a chest,
turn the suit of armour and find a jewel, pull the chain and open the box,
make the library books fall from the shelf (most annoying), secret? drawer
in the table, spin the portrait of the Fat Lady, open and close the spiral
staircase (almost unavoidable as you can't lock it into position!)
lake portal: a set of axes fall from above -- no, I lie, there are no
falling axes which proves this is not a true Lego castle :-)
So there are lots of "hidden secrets" in HC but they certainly are a lot
more tame than KLB's shooting the projectile and making the chest fly
through the air.

| Thankyou to James and Kerry for the comparisons. (...) Well, my preference was obviously for my son to want the KK for the above reasons, but the decision was down to him, I admit I'm a softy when it comes to Christmas, if he'd really preferred the (...) (23 years ago, 1-Nov-01, to lugnet.loc.au)
