I think it's more a case of TLC design/marketing labouring under the
mistaken impression that older designs "wouldn't sell because they're not
cool". It wouldn't be the first time that a company's marketing decisions
were out of touch with its consumer base. To put it bluntly, why else would
they make this junk?
