I remember when I was 9-12 years old (1962-65) back in the days when there were
138 different parts packs available, all of them sold in Toy Stores. I used to
walk the 10 blocks to "Earl's Bike Shop" in Detroit. They had all the
Samsonite LEGO sets and parts pack. I would have 50 cents or a dollar, and buy
a parts pack or two. The ones that come to mind were the macaroni bricks and
the green small plates (Cellulose Acetate back then - in green they were only
sold in the USA and Canada). I dreamed of one day owning the largest sets -
the $25 Town Plan (725) with about 750 pieces, and the $17 Junior Constructor
(717) with about 500 pieces.
As a kid, for some reason, it felt better to make the direct purchase, rather
than thru
Shop-At-Home mailings.
