I've noticed some disturbing trends. 1. Theme logos are no longer used- the old Castle flag, the red & white TOWN roadsign, the word SPACE in white against a starry background. Very familiar logos I'd like to see brought back. Now we just have (...) (24 years ago, 3-Oct-00, to lugnet.general) !

According to an article in ID magazine, March/April 2000, Lego posted its first loss since the companies founding in the 1930s. The article contends that this is due in part to the widely expanded theme product line. Honestly, is this really a big (...) (24 years ago, 4-Oct-00, to lugnet.general)

Not only that, but TLG has also stopped the production of decorated elements with the logo of the theme on them. I love the slopes, tiles and sometimes larger elements that had the Classic Space logo and other subtheme logos on them, especially (...) (24 years ago, 4-Oct-00, to lugnet.general)

If I may jump in here with a thought of my own... All of the new subthemes have too short a shelf life and try to throw too much in a single set ( who among us can afford ALL of the larger sets?) which seems to destroy the idea of LEGO building. The (...) (24 years ago, 4-Oct-00, to lugnet.general)

Jake, I agree with you completely. As long as the parts are great (and in great colors), I can build my own creations at will. But it does seem that AFOLs are in two camps. One camp that wants to build basically whatever sets come out (they are the (...) (24 years ago, 4-Oct-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) Yes. It's easier to mass-market product when it looks like a totally brand-new concept. So having long-time Themes hanging around is counter-productive, marketing-wise. Plus, "Space", "Castle", and "Town" aren't exciting. Too vague and general (...) (24 years ago, 4-Oct-00, to lugnet.general)

I agree with you. Although I never bought any castle sets (I'm sad for that today) I feel it's sad that themes disappear. Besides that, it's the juniorisation thing, but it has been disscussed 1000+ time so I won't start another disscussion again. (...) (24 years ago, 4-Oct-00, to lugnet.general)
