At least one or two of the Divers sets had a dolphin (also Paradisa).

The dolphin also comes in coast guard sets.  It's only
been available in one color (light gray) AFAIK.

Outback had some kind of bird, looked like a hawk (?). I think this bird
is in some of the Wild West sets as well.

This is the parrot element that Lawrence mentions.

The bird has come in four different colors that I know.  Dark
gray (castle, etc), red (Wild West), red with Parrot decoration
(endless pirate sets, etc), and yellow (in pirate ship 6274, as the
figurehead on the Carribean Clipper).

Actually, there is another set in which the yellow parrots appeared - A medium

Also, there's a saw shark, seen in Divers, maybe other places too, fish, in
the Ninja sets (though they're more like decorations than real fish), and
cats - they're pretty small, normally black or white, but a new Belville set
shown in lego.com shows a striped cat that looks (IMO) like a small tiger.

Duplo also have -tons- of animals - elephants, tigers, giraffes, and lots
more. They're big, too, so they might fit in scale with minifigs.

Good luck with the Zoo - I tried a Safari once, but it didn't last long.
