At least one or two of the Divers sets had a dolphin (also Paradisa).

The dolphin also comes in coast guard sets.  It's only
been available in one color (light gray) AFAIK.

Outback had some kind of bird, looked like a hawk (?). I think this bird
is in some of the Wild West sets as well.

This is the parrot element that Lawrence mentions.

The bird has come in four different colors that I know.  Dark
gray (castle, etc), red (Wild West), red with Parrot decoration
(endless pirate sets, etc), and yellow (in pirate ship 6274, as the
figurehead on the Carribean Clipper).

Can anyone help identify what animals have been included in lego sets, and
which sets?

I started on a Zoo

So far I have

A jungle setting with:-
Coloured and grey Parrots
Monkeys
Crocodiles
(using Indigo Island as basis)

'Seaquarium':-
Sharks
octopuss
Manta

Sharks come in several different colors - at the least,
dark gray and white.  Are there others?

Also, there's the sawfish variant.

And there are Duplo killer whales that are pretty cool to
use in a minifig setting.

Horses (by the zillion!)

Reptile house:-
Snakes

Snakes are available in two colors, red and black, right?

Scorpions
Bats (not repltiles I know, but in the same darkly light house)

This freaked me out - I thought you had written "rats."
I wanted to know how I missed out.  =)

Also, there are spiders! They're in the amazon adventurer sets.

Coming up in the future I can see an Artic area with
Polar bears
(use one of those base plates with a blue pool)

What I need is some big cats, elephants, etc

I want to limit it to real, living animals, not dragons or dinos.

thanks for any help
lawrence

Additional animal elements: clams.  And do I remember seeing crab
and starfish elements in Belville sets?

Also -- it's a bit mundane, but the belville kitten, while a bit
large for minifigs, works on their scale.  It's been available in
white and black, at least.
