Re: The Epic Chronicles of Ikros

(...) WOW! I don't think I've ever received such high praise from a non-castle poster before. Talk about giving me an ego trip... It'd be a nifty thing if my website were a monument of that sort, but there are so many more wonderful things that (...) (22 years ago, 18-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: The Epic Chronicles of Ikros

(...) I'm glad you liked it so much. I have had several emails regarding the ending, some people really didn't like it. I guess there's just no pleasing some people. I was trying to aim for an ending that would tie up all the loose ends and leave (...) (22 years ago, 18-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: MOC: My first castle and The Burning Hells reborn!

(...) Nicely done, Dave! Your first castle is excellent. It has great detail. I was very impressed with the area around the castle. The garden and market have some very nice touches. I plan on 'stealing' the fish monger idea from you. Your tree in (...) (22 years ago, 18-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Meduseld - The Golden Hall

Bruce! How's it going man!?! I'm glad to hear you've got more planned. I love your site. You've done so much already, I'm certain you deserve a break in the schedule, I saw you've been slash dotted, you've probably been getting a lot of traffic (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: More custom castle helms

(...) Judging from the pictures, it looks like you are taking stock pieces of plastic and cutting/glueing basic shapes together to get you final piece. The Great Helm (beautifully done) looks like you have worked over an existing minifig helm...? (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Meduseld - The Golden Hall

Thank you Gil, Your compliments are very encouraging! The Lego's of Beleriand is a great name for a website! If I ever have time to move my pics from Brickshelf to a site, I'll ask you if I can use your title! If only the Valar could get me (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Meduseld - The Golden Hall

I've never been slash dotted before, in fact I'm a little new to it, so I had to check it out, before I posted. I guess I'm now officially a geek! I also found out I got posted on The One Ring .Net as well, so I guess it can be said that I've been (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Meduseld - The Golden Hall

Thanks Chris, It took some building to get that Stone base set up correctly! The Harry Potter Walls did come in handy when doing the steps. After the roof, engineering that platform was pretty hard to do symmetrically, I'm glad they made those (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Village in the Sky

Hey Well, yeah. It's a bit harsh of a minifig "natural selection", isn't it? I should correct that, rather than going into some convoluted explanation of the minifigs all having parachutes, but as none of them have backpacks, they'd have to have (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Village in the Sky

Hey Now why didn't I think of that before? That would be a lot more simple and clean of a solution, haha. But, would it fit ok? I mean, would there be any gappage that would be less than a plate thick? (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: More custom castle helms

Hey, Well, I'm the guy with the "LITTLE ARMORY". Any questions? Oh, and btw...BAKING sculpey? Not for such small pieces like helms. Try boiling a little water, then carefully put your piece in. Let it boil for about 2-5 minutes(size thing)and you're (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Village in the Sky

(...) Hey, I think the easiest solution would be to run two technic beams parallel to eachother, with the studs going in opposite directions. Then connect the beams at a few places with technic pins. Now you have a 2xn "brick" with a line of studs (...) (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: More custom castle helms

Re: Meduseld - The Golden Hall

Jon, Once again you make me despair. How can I make my Meduseld measure up to this? Beautiful work, my friend. I love it all, but some of my favorite little details are the way the roofbeams cross in the front and the little horse statue (looks kind (...) (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: More custom castle helms (Kyle!)

(...) Thanks for the reply! In the meantime, I shaved the top off a traditional bullet helm, slapped on some binary epoxy putty, let it cure, and now I'm in the process of grinding it into something that looks like a great helm (the flat top (...) (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: More custom castle helms (Kyle!)

Kyle, thanks for taking the time to write this up. I'm only one more who is curious about trying this, but wouldn't know what was in store before jumping in. -Erik (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Meduseld - The Golden Hall

'.........' That, is the sound of me gaping at the entire folder. Meduseld, Helm's Deep - all of it. Being a hopeless Tolkien fan, these creations are simply mind boggling. If the Valar had Lego at their disposal, this is what they would make. The (...) (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: More custom castle helms (Kyle!)

(...) Bruce (and others), I have pretty much been lurking around at LUGNET and not actively building anything. I did draft up a quick (primitive) tutorial to help people get started on sculpting custom helmets for their minifigures. Perhaps it might (...) (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Meduseld - The Golden Hall

Nice work, Jon. I especially like the the thin columns made up of 1x1 round bricks and plates. And the 1x1 round plates on the front of the building. Oh yeah... and in case you didn't know yet, you've been slashdotted! (URL) Rev. Brendan Powell (...) (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Village in the Sky

Hey Kevin, That's awesome. Great idea, and nice execution! I think the best way of attaching upside down in this case would be some technic plates and pegs. Mark (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

The new poll. No flaws. Get over it.

Okay, so my last poll, according to Larry P. was "fatally flawed", so I decided to go back and create a new poll for anyone who cringed looking at my last one.   Re: The Epic Chronicles of Ikros

  Re: Village in the Sky

(...) Wassssssup (...) Pretty cool place. Gotta like the houses and boats. Where did you get the idea for it? Did it just pop in your head or did you base it on something? Hasta La Vista, Sean (22 years ago, 15-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Village in the Sky

Chris and Shiri, Thanks! You sure have it right on "selective compression", in building it I was running out of parts on all fronts (BURPS, big green ninja bricks, pirate walls, blue slopes, etc etc). I wanted everything a bit bigger, but then it (...) (22 years ago, 15-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Village in the Sky

Hi Josh, Thanks for the compliment! As for the upside-down connection, well, I didn't really do the best job on this first one, but when I rebuild it I'm going to use several of those big chunky 2 x 4 x 2 bricks that have holes on 3 sides, and maybe (...)   Re: Meduseld - The Golden Hall

The Lord of the Ring strikes again! Awesome work Jon - love it. When I first saw "yellow, tan, and brown", I didna know what to think of that combination - but you make it work. The overall shape of the building matches perfectly with what my mind's (...) (22 years ago, 15-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Village in the Sky

Hi Kevin, Nifty little village there - we really like the selective compression. One building standing alone looks way to small (like that fig on the balcony of that little bitty house), but overall, the village looks awesome. Coolness on the upside (...)   Re: The Epic Chronicles of Ikros

You, my friend, have created an epic, a vision of what lego castle should and could be, an amazing trip. I've spend the day reading the whole thing in it's entirity and I must say that you have renewed a .space head's interest in castle. This should (...) (22 years ago, 14-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)
