Hi Josh,
Thanks for the compliment! As for the upside-down connection, well, I
didn't really do the best job on this first one, but when I rebuild it I'm
going to use several of those big chunky 2 x 4 x 2 bricks that have holes on
3 sides, and maybe a few magnets. This still won't be rock-solid, but I
want to keep some latitude in being able to open up the island itself.
I remember seeing these pics dealing with the upside-down question:

Another way would be to use a set of two of those space brackes, which are
like two 2 x 2 plates at 90 degrees of eachother, or a couple of those
license-plate holders that are a modified 2 x 1 plate with a really thin
plate that offers 4 x 1 connection on its side. I'm sure you could rig up a
technic-based answer as well, depending on what you're trying to do.

| (...) Hey, I think the easiest solution would be to run two technic beams parallel to eachother, with the studs going in opposite directions. Then connect the beams at a few places with technic pins. Now you have a 2xn "brick" with a line of studs (...) (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.castle)
