All:
I'm little behind the curve on this overall discussion, but I
think I can speak to this issue. I think the proposed rules for
LSC inclusion are quite reasonable. My reading of the rules is that
I do not qualify for LSC membership (and I can live with that.)
Technical committees frequently need some expertise that
does not currently reside with the committee proper. When
this happens, the committee members can agree to bring somebody
in on an ad hoc, temporary, and non-voting basis to provide
insight and guidance. Ultimately, it is the committee's job to
"do the right thing(tm)", and sometimes that involves asking
for outside help.
I believe that asking for outside help is the correct mechanism
for dealing with people who's input you want, but who do not
otherwise qualify for membership on the LSC.
If I really, really, really want to be nominated for LSC,
then it would not be that difficult for me to author a bunch of
LDraw parts or create some sort of program that uses LDraw
format(s). The entry requirements really *are* quite reasonable.
Later,
-Wayne

| (...) Putting on my legal hat: Notice that the draft proposal refers to "the LDraw Community", not the LEGO community. LDraw stands for LEGO Draw, which is the only time the word LEGO is used in the entire draft, so I'm not sure where you think that (...) (22 years ago, 23-Apr-03, to lugnet.cad.dev)
