Actually you didn't steal anything, I had a different idea:

However, I just tested my scheme in LEDIT and it worked.  So there! ;^)
If you specify a filename with no extension in LEDIT it adds the .DAT.
A filename like abcdefgh.101 is accepted though.  Also if you want to
load a file with no extension you need to use a trailing dot or it will
add the .DAT.

Anyways, my plan is workable, but is there a better way?
