Gimme a set number for "the wildwest miningish" please.

You could not find it with that loose and sloppy description! :-)
http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=6761-1   Sorry about that!

I own set 4555, it has track with notch-accomondating holes.
I own the harbour set that has a portal crane running on tracks, here you find
notch-accomondating holes also.

I could be wrong. But I'd stump for using notched and notchless in the
name or something.

Mmm, the tracks don´t have notches, instead they have holes where the notches
of the sleepers fit in to. Are they called "slots" in English ?

You're right, slots are a better name than notches for the openings.
However I would say that "tabs" are a better name for the part on the
sleeper (or tie in US usage) that sticks up and connects to the slots.

I have to confess that I have not actually looked closely at Bandit's
secret Hideout, one copy is still in box in a lower bin layer and the
other one got parted out as soon as it came home. So I could be all wet
about whether it uses slotted rails or not. Nevertheless I still would
argue against blue or gray in the name.

(...) Don´t bother to dig the set up. Tore found an instuction scan at (URL) it clearly shows that the track parts from this set also have slots in them. Greetings, Manfred Moolhuysen. (25 years ago, 5-Oct-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

(...) I'm curious Chris, in what sets was that the case ? And do these gray ones have those "negative" tapered ends, just like the old blue track had ? In lugnet.cad.dev, Larry Pieniazek writes: (...) Gimme a set number for "the wildwest miningish" (...) (25 years ago, 4-Oct-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)
