  Build sets from "My Parts"

Ever wonder if you could build a set from parts already in your collection? Now you can find out! From any set inventory, click on "Try to build" in the "My Parts" section on the right, and the system will compare the parts needed to build to the (...) (...) Wow! How cool is that!? What a great time to be a LEGO fan... Rick Clark (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

(...) WHOA! Cool! (...) No, thank you! Matt C. (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) I could not get it to work for me. I downloaded my set list (twice) and then punched up a several sets that I own. All results came back with nasty Red text telling me I need all the parts to build those sets. What did I do wrong?? __Kevin (...) (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) When you say you downloaded your set list, what do you mean? If you just entered your lugnet id, it takes a bit until the server goes to download your set list. If you go to (URL) you see your sets? LMK! Dan (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) I've added a button at the bottom of the set list view ((URL) that allows you to initiate a download manually from LUGNET. This will allow you to have changes to your set list reflected on Peeron without having to wait for the scheduled (...) (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

I just tried it. I saw my set list (on Peeron, not Lugnet) and picked one of the sets I owned (8860). I then used "Try to build" and although it got most of the parts, There were several that were yellow and a few red. I do think it's a great tool. (...) (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) Quite possible - it ignores the copies of the set you're trying to build. Since if you own an ISD (10030), and try to build one from your parts, it's already known you have the parts for it. So Peeron is checking if you have the parts to build (...) (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) Well, mine came back OK with the exception of the replacement part quantities. Mine were all off by a factor of three for the Gungan Sub and by a factor of two for the Fire Patrol Copter (each of which I own). If there was one needed to build, (...) (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) oops - sorry, I added a new bug to where there was none before. try again now! (...) yah, working on that. Though it's going to be a pretty big list for most people. Dan (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) I have a comment. I am personally crushed and shocked that Peeron would impliment this feature for its own site, after Dan and I, and others, discussed doing it for LUGNET members, in discussions on LUGNET's internal mailing-list. I am happy (...) (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv) !

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

Makes sense to me. It's a fun and useful tool...Thanks! Michael (...) (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) I beg your pardon? When I suggested this (2 years ago), we were talking that this will be implemented on Peeron - as LUGENT has no facilities to do this. It IS done for LUGNET members, as well as non-members. Also, when I tried to integrate My (...) (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) use an LDraw parts list to do the same check so we can see if we can real-build a MOC designed in CAD! Thanks!!! -Paul (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) I like it, but I'd like to suggest one change. Because of the way Peeron indexes parts, the same physical part with a different printed pattern is considered a completely different part. So if you're missing a part with a particular printed (...) (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) Good idea. I'll see if I can add that to the next revision of the code. Thanks! Dan (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) BrikTrak can turn an .ldr, .dat or .mpd into a BrickLink inventoryish thing so maybe there's a bridge there somewhere??? I haven't reviewed the list of SOAP services Richard makes available so it might not even need any of the code??? I dunno, (...) (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) I did NOT the last time I tested it. NOW I do and the whole function works like a charm. How do I get back to the page with my list of sets?? ____ (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) of (...) Perfect sense to me. BUT, does it know about the thousands of other Lego parts I have bought, traded, stole, and otherwise acquired?? If not, please come to my home to count and inventory everything. Thanks. ____ Note: this message is (...) (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) Cool - good news! :) (...) just click on "set list" in any set page, or go to: (URL) if you run into any problems! Dan (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) My personal recollection is that Suzanne was the one who came up with the idea, back in 1996, and shared the idea with a few people during BrickFest 2001 and again last summer. I don't remember anyone ever discussing that it would be (...) (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) Wow! This time I became a member on Peeron and wow! Was that like being frozen and awaked 1,000 years later!?! But why did you have to sum up the MSRP? :) The download of the set list from Lugnet worked like a charm, and like others I tried to (...) (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) I am afraid not. But I can easily follow your wish (but you should remember also to account for those you have lost, sold, etc.). (...) I try not to, but I would like a feature in Lugnet and/or Peeron that allows me to correct my piece (...) (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) You have just motivated me to upload my sets to Lugnet and register for peeron. Could you add another two buttons? 1. "What can I build?" It would have the same function as "Try to build" but it would list each of the possible sets which I (...) (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

<snip> I am not privy to all the internal discussion nor do I want to comment about who said what (how would I know?). I just hope that this difference is resolved rather than growing into a rift. The community sites are isolated enough as it is, (...) (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) The first time I heard this mentioned is at our apt at BF01 - Suz, Steve, Jenn and I were brainstorming. When I brought this up, we were talking about how we could implement it on LUGNET, with a LUGNET look and feel, but "powered by Peeron". (...) (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) heh, should have an option saying "Total MSRP: $10"? That'll help all us addicts :) (...) The problem is that figuring this out is very database intensive - generating a comeplete list, comparing each members part list with over 2500 (...) (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) It woudl help, but it't still a little steep :) (...) I understand that. The e-mail function could work, or perhaps the server can store the files and compute them when idle? Perhaps also send an optional e-mail when the users file has been (...) (21 years ago, 8-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) I'm extremely disappointed that the online LEGO community can't "get along" better than this. I used to be very active in the L-Draw community years ago (pre-Lugnet on the L-Cad mailing list), but my family has grown since then and I have not (...) (21 years ago, 8-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

I want to second Larry's comments here. I also want to add that while there is a bit of disagreement on the surface everyone seems to be civil about it so far, thankfully. Please fight the rift potential here. Get on the phone if needed, email and (...) (21 years ago, 8-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

(...) For the record, it was Peeron's "My parts" feature that got me to bust my inertia and send in my LUGNET membership installment payment. (...) I'll second that thought. I'm amazed at how well the two sites interface and inter-connect (the same (...) (21 years ago, 9-May-03, to lugnet.inv)

Re: Build sets from "My Parts"

An extra feature that adds and subtracts individual pieces from a Peeron-member's database would be extremely useful. I'm sure all of us have either bought, sold, or simply lost a variety of pieces. One major question is where to store the (...) (21 years ago, 10-May-03, to lugnet.inv)
