For the record, it was Peeron's "My parts" feature that got me to bust my
inertia and send in my LUGNET membership installment payment.

I'll second that thought. I'm amazed at how well the two sites interface and
inter-connect (the same goes for Brickshelf). I would say I even prefer to have
various features to be spread out over several sites, since it means less chance
of lightning (literal or figurative) striking everything at once.
I guess it's possible that in the future, LUGNET might want to add its own set
inventory lists, or instructions resource, in which case there might be a
duplication of efforts. But LUGNET to me has always been, first and foremost,
about the newsgroups. It's a remarkable group of LEGO fans, who get together to
talk about the brick. Unless LUGNET goes away (or becomes very, very
unfriendly), it will continue to be my first and only choice for public LEGO
discussions.
In fact to me, even extra LUGNET features such as the "Set Guide" (which, I
suppose, is sort of duplicated on Peeron, but without pics (and using LUGNET's
data!)) are a great enhancement to LUGNET, but they're not why I'm a member. I'm
there for the newsgroups. Currently, nothing can compete with that (and I'm
pretty sure Peeron has no plans to).

| (...) The first time I heard this mentioned is at our apt at BF01 - Suz, Steve, Jenn and I were brainstorming. When I brought this up, we were talking about how we could implement it on LUGNET, with a LUGNET look and feel, but "powered by Peeron". (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.inv)
