  Re: leaving LUGNET

(...) I only said it was rude and *arguably* had legal implications. That is still my opinion. I doubt I would personally even investigate legal action if my pages were restored after I deleted them, but it would certainly sour my taste of Lugnet. (...)   Re: leaving LUGNET

(...) Again, I'm not saying that Lugnet really shouldn't remove data if someone asks. But if there's going to be an easily accessible system, I'd prefer "hide" over "remove". If there's a court order, or someone really does specify that they want (...) (21 years ago, 5-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: leaving LUGNET

(...) But see also the ToS, point 7: - start - 7. By posting messages, uploading files, inputting data, or engaging in any other form of communication through this service, you are granting LUGNET and its owners a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty- (...)   Re: leaving LUGNET

(...) Of course does anyone actually support a NNTP server feed off of Lugnet (as opposed to individual reads which only get posts that you are actually interested in)? On the other hand, a cancel DOES NOT delete the post, it just removes it from (...) (21 years ago, 4-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: leaving LUGNET

(...) Please note: I am not a lawyer, nor am I Todd Lehman, the following is just my own personal best understanding of Lugnet's terms of use and intentions. Note however this statement in the TOS: 7. By posting messages, uploading files, inputting (...) (21 years ago, 4-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: leaving LUGNET

(...) Well please take a look at the small print at the bottom of my Lugnet page: (URL) It is *my* information, and keeping a copy without my permission would be rude, and arguably (lawyers do like to argue about that kind of stuff) breach of (...)   Re: leaving LUGNET

(...) It's a totally valid request, I just hate the idea. It's one of those things that makes links go stale and makes things untraceable. If it were my server, I'd take the data off the common database and put it in a backup file. It might be (...) (21 years ago, 4-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: leaving LUGNET

(...) I disagree. If I want all my information removed from the server, I want it *removed* not just hidden. If people want an option to hide their info, that should be a separate option. (...) In fact there already is such an option, but it can (...) (21 years ago, 4-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: leaving LUGNET

(...) slightest inclination to DO it, but I suppose I could imagine that it's a legitimate thing to want, if you want to no longer have your member page displayed to the public internet. Maybe you want to hide your name or something, and would (...) (21 years ago, 4-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: leaving LUGNET

(...) I stongly object to this idea. -Orion (21 years ago, 4-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  leaving LUGNET

Hi: I easily found a link to join LUGNET, but did not stumble across one to leave LUGNET. For instance, a link to 'Leave Group' is on the front page of all joined Yahoo groups. I recommend exposing a link that allows: - removing oneself from the (...) (21 years ago, 4-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Cancelling posts

Something freaky happens when I search Lugnet for the F-bomb. Try it yourself - it returns several cancelled posts. Now I'm guessing that the actual post is irrevocably removed, but it's entry is not removed from the index. This may be something you (...) (21 years ago, 2-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: Language Choices and LUGNET

(...) Except that this step isn't happening right now. The server doesn't actually know that this post is from member 179 - it just knows that this email addressed has been allowed to post with these headers. Yes, updating the posting setup form to (...)   Re: Language Choices and LUGNET

(...) Just to clarify - this is the total number of posts in 2004 - by everyone, logged in, web, email, news, you name it. (21 years ago, 1-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: Language Choices and LUGNET

(...) I do think it would be a good idea. With the current imlpementation though, I don't think it's easy to actually corralate posts with the memebers who post them. (21 years ago, 1-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: Language Choices and LUGNET

(...) Simple, timely and sentimental - makes sense to me. Also, highlights are about the post, not the MOC. One could argue that most of the people who would appreciate Kyle's MOC (.mecha-meisters and .space-cadets) would have already seen his post (...)   Re: Language Choices and LUGNET

(...) Agreed. No way would you want someone to send a password in plain text. (...) That's what I was thinking - same as current posting authentication. (...) Hmmn. Good point; this could be (mostly) addressed during the authentication stage: For (...) (21 years ago, 1-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: Language Choices and LUGNET

(...) Well, the issue would really be authenticating the user as a member, and making sure the message didn't get posted if they composed it incorrectly. Since only members are allowed to vote (and when viewing from SMTP/NNTP you can't see (...) (21 years ago, 1-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions, FTX)

  Re: Language Choices and LUGNET

(...) Hmmmn. I don't know what to make of those numbers - except that its a very high number people who just don't see the "highlighting" drilldown. SUGGESTION Clearly Todd already has * a way of highlighting posts * parsing emails to take actions * (...) (21 years ago, 1-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions, FTX)

  Re: Language Choices and LUGNET

(...) This is a very important consideration - I think there is a big difference between voting for a particular contest, and highlighting just to bring something to broader attention. (21 years ago, 1-Feb-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)
