As much as I, you or anyone else would like or bennefit from such an
expansion of LUGNET, we have have to understand a couple of realities as far
as LUGNET is concerned.
Before I expand on this, allow me to put forth a few disclaimers. I don't
speak for anyone else but myself. Not Todd Lehman, Kevin Loch, or The Lego
Company. My views are my own.

One must also understand that it is possible, and more than likely that
Lugnet and Brickshelf could at some time in the future be absorbed by TLC.

Gosh, I hope not. Yes, at some point a fraction of each places contents
could be made obsolete by TLC's site, but some things to consider:

- I doubt TLC will have a better interface than either site. Why? Unless
they stand to make real money from it, they will have no incentive to
put the investment in. Todd and Kevin do what they do partly out of the
joy of making the best possible product. Their pay is not cash, but the
satisfaction of having the best site possible. Both databases also allow
the possibility of fan created additional data (Todd is taking the first
baby steps there, I expect we'll see more in the future, and Kevin might
eventually set up a way to link your folder of pictures and instructions
for alternate models to the set instructions, and I bet both Kevin and
Todd will do some collaborative work to provide more linking of
function).

- I doubt TLC will provide the same type of space for folks to upload
pictures of their creations.

- I doubt TLC's discussion areas will really allow for the breadth of
discussion. While I am absolutely in favor of no restrictions on who can
post to Lugnet so long as they are willing to follow the rules, I
absolutely want a discussion area where mature behavior is demanded.
TLC's discussion areas (when they implement them) will be first for
kids, and as such, will not be able to demand that maturity.

- Where would be have religious debates with each other? (on second
thought, I think I could do without those...)

best place)
