  Re: LUGnet is evil.

This is a test. Please ignore this test unless you want to have a MiniLegofest in the Denver area soon... (...) Ok. First, I set up aliases, like this: alias sl='slrn -n -C' alias lugnet='slrn -C -h lugnet.com' (In ~/.bashrc) There's some specific-to-me stuff early in the file, but most of it can be used as it is. Also, I've made a sorta weird (...) (26 years ago, 3-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Message awaiting authentication

I don't want to use the web client. It's clunky. With NNTP, I can read posts offline, choose my NNTP client (thus finding a UI that is right for me), etc. Thanks for the info though. Now I know that throwing $10 at lugnet won't fix the problem. I (...) (21 years ago, 26-Nov-03, to lugnet.faq, lugnet.admin.suggestions, lugnet.admin.nntp)

  Password reset

Well, it seems I must also join the throng of users who need passwords set. I enrolled and got a member ID, 2013, but was never given the chance to establish a password during enrollment. Further, I never recieved any info in the two communications (...) (21 years ago, 26-Nov-03, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I suspect RTL is more of a "wasteland" now than it ever was, at least in my view, based on my (and I suspect a lot of other people's views as well). (...) I'm pretty sure I'm not missing the point, which is that LUGNET isn't actually standard NNTP and doesn't have standard NNTP needs, for good and valid reasons according to its owners. Further, no matter how wonderful a standard is, if it's not (...) (21 years ago, 27-Nov-03, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

(...) Majordomo can be set up this way. By definition, any decent list server must be as good as Majordomo. Huh. You're proposing that people who want to read/post on LUGnet but not via e-mail would be set up as able to post, but not actually be on (...) (26 years ago, 26-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

I wonder how this scenario differs from the reverse situation, where a mailing list would have to reject posts coming from people (...) (26 years ago, 26-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Yes, currently by hand...one step at a time. :) I have some things in mind for auto-administration of subscription lists because I won't want to do it by hand forever. It won't be very fancy but it'll get the job done. --Todd (26 years ago, 26-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

So, now that it is growing and becoming better, I thought I might offer a suggestion. It's obvious that the cookie works, so how about making better use of it earlier on? (...) So, if someone is on the crynwr lego robotics mailing list but hadn't "introduced" themselves to LUGnet, their messages would just never appear here? Hmmm. That seems an imperfect solution. (26 years ago, 26-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)
