Re: LUGNET in its Senior Years? (was Re: How to properly "announce" MOC's)

(...) Adrian, I sort of agree with you as the technology behind the current version of LUGNET was very sophisticated and advanced way back when... ...but there certainly are other ways to provide a lot of the functionality now. That is why of course (...) (16 years ago, 5-Jul-08, to lugnet.general, FTX)

Re: Server Outage between 11:30 and 15:30 GMT today

I'm sorry but there is a small update in the aftermath of the server maintenance (few of you may have noticed): Due to a misconfiguration the mail2news-gateway has malfunctioned for the period between yesterday, July 2, 21:00 GMT and today, July 3, (...)   Re: Soo Line GP9 and a Tanker

Wow, great work on the tanker, seriously. I admit I had to think about the "viking wheels" for a minute since I completely missed (sort of) the viking line and was simply unaware of these parts. They sure fit perfectly for this use. Great idea. (...) (16 years ago, 3-Jul-08, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: New MOC: Grand Traverse Lighthouse

Hi, while I do not know the original building, I particularly like the way you did the roof construction, as that is an approach that I have been considering for my buildings for quite some time. The obvious drawback is that you can only build (...) (16 years ago, 3-Jul-08, to lugnet.build.arch, FTX)

In order to keep you all updated: We have completed the RAID rebuild and everything is back to nominal. I have also applied some long-awaited optimizations to the backup process, which will hopefully level out the load peaks we observed around (...) (16 years ago, 3-Jul-08, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Server Outage between 11:30 and 15:30 GMT today

I am afraid I have to announce another downtime for tomorrow (July 3rd, 2008) between 7:00 and 12:00 GMT. It appears that one of the disks on our RAID has gone faulty and just to make sure we don't run into any data losses, I have requested the (...) (16 years ago, 2-Jul-08, to lugnet.admin.general)

Server Outage between 11:30 and 15:30 GMT today

Hi all, this is just to inform you that we had an unplanned server outage today (July 2nd, 2008), taking LUGNET offline from 11:30 to 15:30 GMT. The primary cause was a blown power supply with the main server, which subsequently burned some parts of (...) (16 years ago, 2-Jul-08, to lugnet.announce)

Re: 24 hr missing http was Re: who killed HTTP lugnet?

(...) As a matter of fact we are evaluating to throw hardware at the problem (in terms of a stealth firewall that will effectively block the spammers). However, this also involves additional cost that needs to be covered somehow... (...) Identified (...) (17 years ago, 22-May-08, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: 24 hr missing http was Re: who killed HTTP lugnet?

Okay, it appears that due to the amount of still-incoming spam we do have a lag with regard to handling authentication emails. That's not exactly new, and it's not exactly as bad as it used to be - my last test took about 15 minutes to show up after (...) (17 years ago, 21-May-08, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Chris, no confusion as such, no - let's rather call it a slight disturbance ;) No, really, I have cross-checked again, and the only thing I seem to find is that we do have a time zone discrepancy between the NNTP and HTTP news post display.   Please support my optimization effort on advertisements

Hi all, I am currently trying to optimize the appearance of advertisements on LUGNET. This is both in order to achieve a clean appearance of the web pages (so that the ads don't get on anyone's nerves too much) and of course to ensure we keep LUGNET (...) (...) Hi Chris, I am afraid I cannot exactly follow your point. It may very well be that you experienced a small (or medium) lag between the time of your post and the actual appearance of the post on LUGNET's website - this is due to the indexing (...)
