| | Re: RIS 1.0 vs 1.5
|
| By all means, get the upgrade. Even if you never touch the software, the extra pieces (including the coveted, oft-referenced clutch gear--the white thing) are very much worth having. You'll also have two versions of the test mat, and two (...) (25 years ago, 1-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

| | Re: Firmware startup bug?
|
| I have replaced my batteries without erasing the firware several times. The trick is replacing the batteries one at a time with the brick turned off. You have then several (10 or so) seconds between each replace. If you leave the brick switched on (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

| | Re: Speed of RCX interpreting bytecodes: slow
|
| (...) Yes. It is important to realise, that the RCX, does not perhaps do the interpretation in the way you think. In each 'loop', it executes one instruction from each of the possible threads, and also reads the A-D's, on each sensor, and updates to (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

The key part MAY BE the Lego to DCP connection, but I don't think that the connection itself is anything more than a Lego wire connector soldered to a DIN plug. I think the real masterpiece to make these (...) (25 years ago, 5-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

| | Re: RCX speaks ?
|
| (...) I'm not sure if LegOS yet gives you raw control over the speaker. You'd certainly need at least that. You wouldn't be able to use the standard-firmware based systems (RCX Code, NQC, RoboLab), for sure. Even with LegOS, there's the issue of not (...) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

| | Re: pbFORTH needs better uploading, docs
|
| Well, I can rather agree on the uploading, but I don't find it quite as bad as you do. Not as good as NQC, but then NQC still has all the LEGO firmware limitations. As for the rest of your comments, I can only say that I managed to get the (...) (25 years ago, 9-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth)

| (...) value, as (...) Yup, it is. It has less memory, no LSD display, no flashable firmware and only one program "slot". Two of the three motors available, are fixed to the brick. Due to it's radio-link instead of IR-link, I tend to use it with PC (...) (25 years ago, 10-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

| Hi John, Thanks for for clarifying the differences between the RCX capabilites and the default firmaware capabilities. LegOS sounds like thge right to for true multitasking. But while I'm using the default firmware, it sounds like the sleep task (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)
