Hi all,

I am in the process of organizing a weekend of playing with LEGO pirate ships
in June.  I need to gauge interest and begin to collect commitments.  I don't
have all the details (like a firm date) worked out yet, but here is what I do
have.  The details contained herein are all subject to change, but I don't
think they will change much.

   Neat!

Steve Jackson and Frank Filz will most likely be running games on Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday.  There will be a great deal pirate festing going on. • The
schedule of games is looking like: Friday evening, a battle game will be run • by
Steve to get everyone familiar with mechanics and to have a good time.
Saturday, Frank will run a scenario campaign from morning through completion
that evening.  Sunday, Steve will run a scenario campaign that might start
Saturday night depending on how things go.  The games are flexible in that
people can come and go to some extent.

Some extent?  I think that people coming and going is fine, but
of course it's always difficult when you have to acclimate new
players throughout the course of the game.  :)

It appears that we will have to charge a playing fee to pay for fun prizes and
the acquisition of Steve Jackson from Austin, Texas.  I am looking to raise
enough to pull this off and not charge so much that anyone who wants to play
would have to not because of cost.  Keeping that in mind, some payment schema
that we have discussed include: $1 per hour of play, $5 per four hour block of
play, some per day of play fee, etc.  Please let me know how you feel about
this.

Ack, I was hoping to make a full weekend of it!  :)  You know,
hang around far too long, cause trouble, shirk my lecture writing...
Perhaps we can have a weekend registration, with different costs
   for single days?

I can definitely confirm that I am *not* in any position to
spend lots of money.  It's bad enough that I have to pass on
my gf's friend's wedding in South Carolina because I can't
afford it (it's the same weekend, 8-10 June).  However, I can
swing $30 or so for a weekend, plus the cost of victualling.
If it's any other weekend, I can probably also manage it.  I'll
check the University's summer schedule to be sure--although I
don't have to teach weekends, I don't want to spend the weekend
before the first lecture engaged in the pursuit of fun.  It
   sets a bad example!  ;)

The weekend that I'm leaning toward is 8-10 June.  This is completely • flexible.
Please send me a note if you want to participate with June weekends that are
good and bad.  I hope to settle on a date, confirm with all the organizational
parties, and begin taking reservations.  If you are local, that's great, and • if
not, I can help you put together travel and sleeping accommodations.  For • those
of you interested but broke, people have been known to spend the entire night
at these parties, so if you wash well ahead of time, you might be able to
squeak by without a real room.  I might also be able to get people who want
room mates together to cut costs.

Theoretically I might be able to put up one person, the big
problem being there's not much room in my apartment.  I mean,
NO ROOM--it's a side room about 4' x 9' and there is no sleep-
furniture, though I have a sleeping bag.  Oh, and the little
   room isn't air-conditioned (always a catch, isn't there?).

The catch, of course, is that any crasher would have to provide
me with a bit o' pizza during the battles...arrrr.  And they may
very well be at the mercy of me sled o' pain, the little blue
   Geo, for transport.

The location of the event is slated to take place in an empty store in a strip
mall near my favorite local game shop in the greater Princeton, New Jersey
area.  The game shop will be hosting a game party in the same shop, but we • (and
Steve Jackson's presence) will be the central event.  The game party includes
lots of games, a door raffle, a never-ending supply of free pizza, and for the
first time, a major LEGO event.

   Keen!

Frank will be supplying much of the fleet and all of the crew.  Each player is
invited to bring a minifig captain for their ship.

OK.  I assume by 'much of the fleet' that Steve isn't bringing
any ships, so who is the 'rest of the fleet' coming from?  I
won't have time between my return to NJ on 2 June and this event
to build any ships--it'll take that long just to get my life out
   of storage.

On the other hand, getting a hold of my dread Cap'n Snotch is
going to be rather easy; he's sitting on an island baseplate
   in deserted Detroit.

If there are any further questions, please drop me a note and I'll try to
answer them.  If there is anything in my current plans that you think would
prevent you from attending, please let me know and maybe we can work something
out.

Nothing at all is preventitive.  Keep me posted on the evolution.
I'll have to decide whether to bring my two special 'children' for
viewing...all in good time, as we figure out the security issues
   and so forth.

   all best

   Lindsay

(...) Well, I think our schedule provided about 30 hours of gaming, so if the price was a buck an hour, total cost for the weekend would be $30. I did suggest we have a "bulk" discount (like $25 for the whole weekend). If the store owner really is (...) Based on Steve Bliss' comment, I've set FUT lugnet.fun.gaming (...) It would suck if people were ducking in and out all the time. But I agree that hte game is better than virtually any other at allowing this kind of play. (...) As Frank mentioned, (...)
