| Here are a few new JLUG slogans....
JLUG - The end of an error.... errr I mean era.
JLUG - Been there, done that, cant be bothered to do it again.
JLUG - The "sandbox" is condemned.
Sadly during the recent crash we (JLUG) got hit pretty hard. Our database was
chewed, eaten and spit back out, and the forums and chat that once were beloved
by some, hated by others, are now nothing but a distant memory.
After some discussion between "admins", (and after realising that all the posts
are gone, but even the membership list are gone as well) both Ross and I decided
that instead of starting fresh, we would let JLUG die a peaceful death.
(Listens to the "sighs" from our loyal members, and "cheers" from our critics.)
We had a good run.
It was entertaining at best, ridiculous at worst, and even funny at times.
For those of us that enjoyed it (and there were some hardcore members) it is
with mixed emotions I say good bye to our little corner of the web.
I'm thankful for those of you that made the forum a pleasure for us to run, we
couldn't have had a better membership. Also, I'm thankful for those of you that
fought me all the way along for that's what made the place what it was. It was
a fun ride, and we can proudly (as proud as one can be of JLUG) go out on a
high, with approx 24000 posts under our belt and a few hundred members......
So it was fun, but not fun enough to start again from scratch.
Thanks to everyone for the support of our decision, may I wish you good luck in
finding a new sandbox.
Hey this place looks nice (Lugnet)... looks like most of you never left here
anyway.

Thank you for all the effort you and ross put into JLUG.

I feel much the same way. I was contemplating setting up a website called
save.JLUG.com, to provide a forum in which fans of JLUG could work to save JLUG.
We could have provided anecdotes, aired carefully thought out arguments, made
vague threats, and even written songs to support the reinstatement of JLUG.
But then I realised that if I had the expertise to set that up, I could probably
just set up JLUG2 and be done with it.
Hmmm... I wonder if Janey and Ross contemplated finding some Albanians to take
JLUG over?

We could form a committee to discuss it, and then all resign in a fit of
petulance. Thatd be fun.
They could run the server from a handcranked laptop in Africa. Itd probably be
more reliable than those shonky Northstar servers.

No. No discussion. Why not register us, and see how it goes? Will it collapse in
a mountain of anticommunitarian trolling? Will you collapse under the admin
load? I suspect neither. But carpe diem and all that. You have built it,

My reference to meant collapsing under the admin load is not meant to be
insulting toward CL Ross and Mistress Janey. They did do a lot of work behind
the scenes.
In fact, some of the things they delivered were the most wizard that Ive seen
in any online LEGO forum. But perhaps some of the things like slighting, the
LPV and MOT galleries, jugstars, the automatic deacrynoming of CTOPs, the cute
smilies and so on were a bit too much of an overhead. Wherever did they get the
ideas for such features?
So, kudos to CL Ross and Mistress Janey for what they achieved.

As an intermittent lurker and appreciator of all things JLug, this is sad news
:(
I do feel that JLug served a very niche market for the LEGO enthusiast--one
which was needed and appreciated by many who partook.
I think a forum like JLug is needed for a more 'adult oriented' audience--it
allowed LEGO fans to 'let their hair down' and have adult-type banter without
fear of banning or murfling. It also allowed for a, shall we say, place to post
more 'exotic' MOCs that might not be entirely recommended for 'da kiddies' to
peruse...
If I may be so bold--maybe the time has come for LUGNET--the community of all
things LEGO--to step up and have an 'adult oriented' section (much like JLug)
that can be added to the filters easily (so non-wanting eyes won't peruse) and
have a 'I agree to enter this LUGNET NG and not hold anyone responsible for what
I find in there' login thingy.
It's a suggestion--not wanting anyone to be put on the spot or defend the
existence of JLug.

Well, thanks for the kind words everyone, for a forum that never expected to
reach 19 members we did ok. But it was time to call it a day. The other parts of
jlug.net will remain for the time being, it may even get updated occasionally.
Wink.
And I'd just like to take this opportunity to give a big thank you and hug to
Janey, who was not only the instigator of our little sandbox, but also a great
friend. Then again, everyone that really matters already knows that. And no
Chris, you WEREN'T member #2 and I have PROOF of that. Have a great time at
Brickworld, you 2.
But one thing I don't understand - why did you post this in .debate????? I
haven't seen one iota of debate in this thread yet...

Seems to me its the one place on Lugnet that all Journeymen could be guaranteed
to read sooner or later.
Very sad tidings gang. But the fact that its gone does not diminish how much I
loved it, which was a lot. Thanks.
Oh, and just once more, because it always tickled me that I could, My name is
Chris.

Still baldly going...

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Phew! Finally got my posting rights back. I've been with JLUG since a few days
after it was made and even today it's the one place that made me feel at home on
the internet. I remarked to CM Janey the day it was announced here on lugnet
that I felt the place was custom-made for me, and so it was. But I suppose
nothing lasts forever and JLUG is no exception. I'd also like to thank every
JLUG member for making the place as great as it was, especially Ross for
fielding all my obscure technic questions, and both him and Janey for keeping
the place going for so long.

Janey "Red Brick"
Why the heck you did that?.. Just heard the news from Gambort and shocked. Man,
I was trying to connect to The Place every other day, still living in hope to
see the day my connection problems are solved.
Now I know this will never happen.
Thanks to you both (Janey and Rosco) and all the other guys that I had fun
together for a time. But believe me, you are putting me back into another dark
bley ages for a second time (NTNMA of course, but again...).

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Alas, how will I continue my debate with Lar?
Thanks Janey and Ross for all your efforts. I shall now doubly cherish my

Here are a few new JLUG slogans....
JLUG - The end of an error.... errr I mean era.
JLUG - Been there, done that, cant be bothered to do it again.
JLUG - The sandbox is condemned.
Sadly during the recent crash we (JLUG) got hit pretty hard. Our database was
chewed, eaten and spit back out, and the forums and chat that once were
beloved by some, hated by others, are now nothing but a distant memory.
After some discussion between admins, (and after realising that all the
posts are gone, but even the membership list are gone as well) both Ross and I
decided that instead of starting fresh, we would let JLUG die a peaceful
death.
(Listens to the sighs from our loyal members, and cheers from our
critics.)
We had a good run.
It was entertaining at best, ridiculous at worst, and even funny at times.
For those of us that enjoyed it (and there were some hardcore members) it is
with mixed emotions I say good bye to our little corner of the web.
Im thankful for those of you that made the forum a pleasure for us to run, we
couldnt have had a better membership. Also, Im thankful for those of you
that fought me all the way along for thats what made the place what it was.
It was a fun ride, and we can proudly (as proud as one can be of JLUG) go out
on a high, with approx 24000 posts under our belt and a few hundred
members......
So it was fun, but not fun enough to start again from scratch.
Thanks to everyone for the support of our decision, may I wish you good luck
in finding a new sandbox.
Hey this place looks nice (Lugnet)... looks like most of you never left here
anyway.
Good night,
Janey Red Brick

Janey--
If I had known of JLUG, Id have been there. Sorry to have missed all the fun,
but best of all new endeavors to you. It sounds like it would have been fun.
Especially the robotic cat thing.
