Comments and opposing viewpoints are always welcome....

I am surprised this thread has reared its head once again.  Zack must
be way behind on his LEGO message groups...  :-)  I posted my original
message back in September.  I followed that up with a couple others.

I was in a very fowl, angry mood after purchasing set 4561 Railway
Express, my first train set.  I had been collecting Technic,
Mindstorms and Star Wars sets up till that point and had been very
happy with all those sets I purchased.

It wasn't until I bought 4561, that I understood all the adults who
had on numerous occasions voiced their concern about Town Jr., BURPs,
and a general decline of quality in set design.

After witnessing some auctions, and doing some calculations, a
realization struck home hard. It was going to be really difficult, if
not impossible, to acquire all the parts I needed for my planned
project.  What I need most, is what so many others also want.

Bulk purchasing.

After one more verbal outburst a short time later...  And seeing oh so
little comment about it. Neither for or against...

I decided to drop the whole matter, and take a different approach with
the LEGO Group.

I do encourage people to fill out the Roll call, leaving out whatever
information you don't care to divulge.  The data tells TLG that we do
exist, in vast numbers.  It can't hurt, and it isn't complaining, to
ask for what you really want from a company that services you.

The LEGO Group is a very large company that has the intertia
of a supertanker. In other words, even if they magically got all of the best
designs from the community and decided to make them real kits, we
would not see them for a couple of years.

Ralph is absolutely correct in this assessment. After doing further
research, it became apparent to me that the LEGO Group's President &
CEO, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen was well aware that his company, after
having a very poor year, was well aware that TLG needed to reorganize
itself.

The Fitness program that he initiated is happening now. We are
concerned about the closure of many LEGO branch offices, shop@home
services, and the possible elimination of service packs...

But what we don't know, is the future.

Perhaps TLG will set up one internet based shopping service for
everyone.

Perhaps TLG, seeing the number of adults who have bought Mindstorms is
becoming aware of the vast number of adults who have bought sets for
many years.

Perhaps TLG will address many of our concerns and our needs in its
restructuring.

There are signs of this.

Star Wars sets have been very successful.  LEGO designers have said
this is the type of set they wanted to see sold, and we know that
George Lucas had final say.  His people would be like us, fans of
LEGO.  They would have wanted good sets built of bricks, not BURPs.
SW isn't popular just because it is Star Wars.  Important to kids,
yes. A far less important factor to adults. TLG must have some
realization of this.

The LEGO Group clearly states in one of their press releases that
adult males over 30 have accounted for half the sales of the Robotics
Invention Set when it was first released in the US and Canada.
Clearly, this was a big wake up call to the LEGO Group.  We'll soon
see how well Mindstorms sells in Europe. Again, this can only be a
good thing.

The LEGO Group has been advertising in adult magazines.  I've heard of
two so far.  This shows a willingness to continue promoting LEGO to
adults.  This can only be a good sign.

Then there is the latest catalog pictures of new Star Wars sets
(Technic & Model Team) that look very good.  And now with the latest
mini fig images everyone is speculating the re release of the Castle
theme.

All good signs that the LEGO Group is turning it around.

For all these reasons and more, I have dropped my slash & burn
campaign.  I will wait.

The Fitness program continues...

Who knows where it will lead.
