I know that there are manufacturers of the DCC receiver modules that WILL
give you a price break if you buy in bulk. So some budding enterpreneur,
here's your chance.

Not at any normal quantity.  The market for DCC conversions is rather
limited...I'd be more than happy to do them on a order basis, but I am not
going to go out of my way to have a stock in hand of converted motors.

and I have offered this before- I just don't think that people are willing to
pay the price required. $20 for the motor, $25 for the decoder + something for
my time (plus the risk of a occasional fried decoder...) would bring them to
~55-60 US/each.

If people are interested at that price point, feel free to Email me- I'd be
happy to discuss terms.

I have very limited knowledge of DCC but in a nutshell my understanding is
that with DCC forward on a controller will always make the engine move
forwards, right?

In order to do this only a LEGO train one needs to modify the train motor,
right?

What is a decorder?  Will I be able to use the old speed regulator or is
this decorder taking over that function?  Plus could I still run multiple
engines on 1 track?

You mention the occasional fired decorder?  How does this happen?

Thanks

(...) Well- sort of. The motor will go in a constant direction of rotation, regardless of orentation on the track. However, which way forward is can be defined in most decoders (I have some which are spoofed to forward=reverse direction) (...) Yes, (...) (22 years ago, 19-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)
