DCC and the future —Steve Martin
One of the reasons I haven't taken on converting my Lego trains to DCC is because I have this hope (faint though it is) that TLC will come out with a DCC solution. If they did, what would the level of compatibility be with the current crop of (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —Frank Filz
(...) If they come out with a DCC solution, then they're compatible. If they come out with a different solution, I might ignore it. It would depend on how their solution compared to DCC. DCC is an industry standard and non-proprietary, so a (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —Greg Kramer
(...) And I'd get in line right behind you. I don't have the skill or time to it myself. We need someone to do to the Train component market what John Barnes' HiTechnic has done for the Mindstorms sensor market. -Greg K (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Roger Roger. I'd be right behind you. (...) I know that there are manufacturers of the DCC receiver modules that WILL give you a price break if you buy in bulk. So some budding enterpreneur, here's your chance. Heck, if it is capital or a (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —James Powell
(...) Not at any normal quantity. The market for DCC conversions is rather limited...I'd be more than happy to do them on a order basis, but I am not going to go out of my way to have a stock in hand of converted motors. and I have offered this (...)            Re: DCC and the future —Ahui Herrera
(...) I have very limited knowledge of DCC but in a nutshell my understanding is that with DCC forward on a controller will always make the engine move forwards, right? In order to do this only a LEGO train one needs to modify the train motor, (...) (22 years ago, 18-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —John Hill
(...) Yes, thats right, no matter which way the loco is facing on the tracks 'forwards' is always forward. (...) Yes, the only Lego component to be modified is the train motor. (...) The decoder is a small electronic circuit that has to be mounted (...) (22 years ago, 19-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —Ondrew Hartigan
How does DCC work with reversing loops ? Also thank you for being willing to anser these questions about DCC. I am mostly a lerker but I have found this very informative. ondrew niltc (...) (22 years ago, 19-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —John Hill
(...) Reversing loops are accommodated in DCC The DCC combined power and control signal is a form of alternating current so it is possible to reverse the connections to a section of track without changing the behaviour of the trains. In DCC systems (...) (22 years ago, 19-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

In lugnet.trains, John Hill writes: <buncha good stuff> Do we have enough info to do a FAQ? Does someone want to take a crack at it? Tom Cook's site has a lot of good DCC info too I think. (22 years ago, 19-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —John Hill
(...) I guess we have enough information, I am certainly willing to contribute to the extent of my limited experience. How does one 'do an FAQ'? There are a couple of good sites showing how to modify the trin motor, I don't know if I have seen (...) (22 years ago, 19-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Thanks for volunteering! But it would be better if more people volunteered as well, it's a bit of work.         (...) Are are of you DCC Gurus going to Brickswest 2003? I would really LOVE to see a DCC Session at Brickswest 2003. -Ahui (22 years ago, 20-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —John Hill
(...) Sorry, too far for me (about 7000 miles) but if anyone tells me where the questions are I will answer those I can. (22 years ago, 20-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —James Powell
(...) Well- sort of. The motor will go in a constant direction of rotation, regardless of orentation on the track. However, which way forward is can be defined in most decoders (I have some which are spoofed to forward=reverse direction) (...) Yes, (...) (22 years ago, 19-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —Kyle McDonald
(...) I may have found a DCC dealer website that will be willing to do this work. The prices for their DCC equipment seem very reasonable. and they even do installations of equipment that they didn't sell although at a slighter higher price. I (...)          Re: DCC and the future —William R. Ward
(...) What is the point of having a magnet on the track? But anyway, LEGO made magnet holders with a 2x2 plate base that would hold a standard LEGO magnet. They were used in the Ice Planet 2002 space sets, perhaps among others. --Bill. (22 years ago, 20-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —Bryan Kinkel
Whenever this type of discussion comes up, I get so frustrated at the lack of any news on this topic one way or another. I know Lego has to keep a lid on development in order to stay competative. But.... It would be a relief if Lego would just come (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —Jan-Albert van Ree
(...) They will, but in small steps. From all the talks by Brad Justus and the progress made so far I seriously doubt LEGO will ever do a DCC system. AFOL's are simply too small a market. We'll be lucky to get one or two new pieces of track if you (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: DCC and the future —Reinhard "Ben" Beneke
