Also lights are optional, both the Green Machine and Big Blue have lighted
cockpits, it looks pretty wild when the room lights are turned down. Of
course I'm sure this draws a bit of energy from the motor, but that's the
price you pay for coolness.

Use a battery box to light the lights. This has the advantage of adding some
weight too, which could be useful.

So the unit has to be seperable at some point? Or does it have to use a
magnetic coupling? Or does it just need to be some number of wheels total.
(would, say, an articulated unit that had 16 wheels total and bent in a
number of places but did not actually separate into two coupled parts be
permissable?)

A battery box might be a bit too much weight, but you're more than welcome
to try.

The train does not have to use magnetic coupling (actually the Green Machine
has a ball and socket connection, and one of my newer trains doesn't have a
true coupling at all, the motor is in the rear and it pushes the "rolling
stock"), but you do need to be able to seperate the unit into two pieces
that can roll freely of each other. The idea was too maintain the
"trainness" of the racers by requiring it to pull or push something.

Also there is no wheel limits, just as long as both parts (engine & rolling
stock) can roll with out the assistance of the other. If you can build a
part that can balance on on only one set of train wheels, then fine, it just
needs to be able to do it consistantly. And there is no maxium for wheels,
just a limit on number of motors, one.
