  Re: Part Storage for Brickbay

(...) Thank Larry (...) clearly (...) I will be doing this as some parts are used, i can't say they are all new, mind you, some of the stuff is new.. If you get that :-) Still no news on Brickbay yet? -- Michael - - - Please reply on (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Part Storage for Brickbay

(...) For transient storage I use the "disposable" food storage containers. They have round bottoms and cost less than 50 cents each. Not suitable for long life but work fine for me. Way better than ziplocks (which are quite a bit cheaper) because (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Part Storage for Brickbay

Hi I need a little help, with a storage solution but i don't know if you lot do the same thing I picked up a load of Lego - about 10 Gallons for 4UK pounds - which works out about $5.50 - now that's is a find :-D Anyway, i am cleaning it now, but (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: 2 x4 brick down drain

(...) A 2x4 is large and pointy, compared to drain pipes (a lot of which are 1.5" or 2" I.D. and that's before grease/hair etc narrow them, so it depends on how long and or twisty the run is. I'd check the trap now while there is a chance it's still (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

(...) I do the same with the larger parts...the vertical nesting stacks. I have to do the same, always running to the shelfs. Drives me nuts. I also have about twenty Plano thin, clear boxes (with lids) for the smaller parts. That helps, but still (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

(...) So it sounds like the key is having a big enough worktable so you can have the likely trays out and available as you do your design run? (...) I agree about drawers, i don't use them and would find them maddening as well. Where I went wrong is (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

(...) That's cool. I know drawers are by far the most common system for AFOLs, and complaints like mine are practically unheard of. But I'm tempted (almost) to attribute their popularity to economy of space and price. Then, their defense to (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: 2 x4 brick down drain

(...) I've had a few small parts go down the drain (bummer). I've gotten a lot more careful about washing. I suspect the brick will just wash on through unless your pipes are close to clogged. Frank (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: 2 x4 brick down drain

(...) Are you sure it's not in the trap? (...) lol. Just start with, "Honey, I lost something down the drain..." He'll have visions of a diamond down there. -Suz. (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

  2 x4 brick down drain

One 2 x4 brick escaped my collander to go down the drain in my bathroom sink. Has anyone else had this experience? My sink has not slowed- yet... Will it just flush on through? Is this going to cause me problems later? I am not looking forward to at (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.storage)

Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

(...) I use pull-out drawers (IRIS) and don't have that problem. The drawers are big enough that you can pull one out 1/3 of the way and the one below it 2/3 of the way, and access both. You do sometimes find the drawer you want blocked, but if you (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

(...) In a tilt-bin setup, bins get opened only once (they stay open) no matter how many times parts are taken from them. They can also be removed. In a tray system, as at TLC, the entire drawer is a compartmentalized tray (aprox 24x30x3). It gets (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

(...) I'd like to hear more about this if it's not confidential. When I am free building or designing something new (as opposed to doing a production run where I am working from a parts list) I don't always know how much of what I will end up (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

(...) I don't think the issue of tilt shift causing wear is one worthy of consideration unless it's the only consideration. That said, I could argue that under certain working conditions, there would actually be less shifting with a tilt system. But (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

(...) Yes, definately... (...) For what it's worth, my Lego goes back 30 years (and more). I was my number one toy as a child and I made no effort to avoid scratching it. Keep in mind, that the primary components in almost any model are the ordinary (...) (24 years ago, 19-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

I'm more concerned about keeping the bricks out of direct sunlight. I avoid tiltbins for a different reason: I can't fill them up as much. If anything, I'd like to move to a system that has large opaque drawers, say 28" x 20", which can hold any (...) (24 years ago, 18-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Drawers vs tilt-bins and scratching?

I'm curious about drawer vs tiltbin storage for wear on Lego. I realize that there are personal preference issues here as well, but I'm mainly curious about the effect of tilt bins on Lego itself. Every time you open a tilt bin up, a few of the top (...) (24 years ago, 18-May-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Building habits (Warning: Long-Winded!)

(...) <HUGE SNIP> (only for the cause of breviety) I'd like to chime in here. I fully agree with Chris here, and this is the reason why. I've been told I'm in the top 10 of documented set accumulation, (I haven't actually researched this, too busy (...) (24 years ago, 25-Apr-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Building habits (Warning: Long-Winded!)

In lugnet.storage, Jonathan Dallas writes: <snip!> (...) My question to you is: where do you find the time NOT to sort your collection? My LEGO collection was still relatively small (~ 5,000 pieces) when I realized just how much time I was spending (...) (24 years ago, 25-Apr-01, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Need alternative storage recommendations

(...) My reccomendation would be to continue to use your large tubs, but sort the parts by type and then put bags of similar types together in tubs. For parts which you have smaller quantities of, look at the various drawer units people have (...) (24 years ago, 24-Apr-01, to lugnet.storage)
