Someone (Knight) from a SW site (theouterrim, I think) sent me this: (URL) says its a genuine picture obtained from LEGO of the final model and NOT a mock-up. If so, our worse fears have been realised... Huw (25 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.starwars)

That looks either: a) like a fan design, or b) an early mockup that does NOT look like a final TLG product to me. I have faith in them and so should you. Shame on you! :-) However, I have NO illusions about the Falcon myself. I expect it to be out (...) (25 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.starwars)

Please let this not be TLG's interpretation of the MF. Please... But the only thing that scares me is the cockpit. I have never seen it before in any Lego sets. Can anyone confirm that? (25 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.starwars)

I'm going to be rebellious and say... I think this model could actually be pretty cool. The picture we've seen is definitely messed up, leaving parts of the model (such as the back end) missing. The picture is probably of an early prototype, so it (...) (25 years ago, 24-Oct-99, to lugnet.starwars)
