I agree the photo is very messed up. Whoever prepared it did a very quick and
dirty masking job. One wonders why. What was in the background that they wanted
to mask off? Anyway, the blue mask is done so badly it's creeping in to the model
itself on every side. As was pointed out above, the whole back end is obviously
missing, and the radar dish is kinda half-masked. The mask also creeps into the
left side, so the cockpit looks like it just sort of hanging on by a stud or two.
And on the right side, you can see the blue mask eating away at the front end. I
think an unmasked version of this photo would reveal a much more substantial (and
maybe even attractive) looking model. Well, attractive except for the UFO hulls.
So why is the background masked out? It's really the only clue we have to give up
hope that this may be a hoax, or an abandoned prototype. Well, the other clue is
that hand holding it up. Not exactly a catalog photo, is it? Whether the model is
from TLG or not, I would say that the picture itself is definitely not.

| ---...--- (...) that (...) I think I just realized why this photo is so funky. It's a cyan and black color plate from a print, I don't see any obvious Magenta or Yellow. This means that any details done primarily with Magenta and Yellow won't show (...) (25 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.starwars)
