New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Paul Hanson
Hi everybody - I've just uploaded a bunch of pictures to brickshelf: (URL) Odyssey is an exploration vehicle that can be configured as a spaceship, a rover, or a submarine, depending on what the mission is. It's got a fully detailed interior (I'm (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build) !

RE: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Bram Lambrecht
(...) Awesome job! This is the best box-based exploratory vehicle I have seen. The modularity is great, although the submarine looks like it might have a little trouble getting through water :) I like the wheeled version a lot. The asymmetrical (...)          Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Paul Hanson
(...) Cool - thanks! (...) I built the wheeled version first, knowing that I wanted to make it modular, but not really sure how to accomplish it. The result is that the other two configurations (especially the sub) are weaker. Maybe next time I'll (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Joel Jacobsen
(...) Excellent, Paul! I have to say that I'm rather envious of your layout - it gets everything in that one would need, but is spacious and gives playability. It looks like even my fat fingers could reach in there with little effort. :) I'm finding (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Paul Hanson
(...) Thanks! (...) Yep, that's how it works. The ramp serves as the outer door of the airlock, and the rover fits (barely) inside. (...) Most of the modules attach using technic pins. The landing gear slide up into the bottom of the pod-things that (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Andy Lynch
Wow. That is fantastic. My younger brother and I would have had a BLAST with a set like that when we were growing up. Looking at this reminded me that my brother and I would pretend that each room in the house was a different environment. For (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Paul Hanson
(...) Thanks! When I was a kid, big wheeled exploration vehicles were my favorite thing to build - I must have built dozens of variations. Building this one really took me back to the good ol' days. (...) Ha! I used to do the same thing. The carpet (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Andrew Tyrone
(...) Wow, that's quite groovy I must say! The whole ship is very [insert hippest word here]. =) I love the interior and exterior both, but the living quarters is my favorite. This design will give me needed inspiration for my latest model in (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —George Haberberger
(...) Paul, Wow, I'm really impressed with your level of detail, including the nude fig in the shower, the coffee mugs, and the bunk room. Thanks, George (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Mark Sandlin
(...) of the design and the way you differentiate the rear detail makes it work very well. Most people would just stick on a rudder or some such. Your attention to detail and planning is excellent. Things I like: -Good bunks. 3 wide seems to work (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Scott Sanburn
To All, (...) it can be a spaceship / sub / and surface explorer is very impressive. There are enough believable changes to it to make it that way. The interior designs are top notch, especially the sleeping area, the kitchen, and the bathroom (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Paul Hanson
(...) Thanks! (...) Good question. I envision that Odyssey travels with some kind of support vessel - basically a space freighter that carries extra modules and equipment for changing them out. I haven't built that one, and probably won't - I have a (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Paul Hanson
(...) That's usually what I say when I see your stuff, too. (...) I like those chairs a lot myself. It's a design I've used for a while, and at least one of them sneaks into just about every model I build. They take up a lot of room, but they're (...)          Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Paul Hanson
(...) Ooh! I forgot to say that this little detail (and many others) was added at the suggestion of my wife. She's just full of good ideas :-) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Jon Palmer
I really like this a lot. It has such a clean design. It really looks like it would be a blast to play with! -Jon (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Tony Hafner
Like the ship you entered in the Classic Space Contest, this shows great modularity- very nice! But where's the alternate upper floor? Or the smaller (or bigger!) vehicle that uses the same modules? I may be "borrowing" some ideas from your interior (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Dave Schuler
(...) That kitchen range/sink/drainboard module will definitely make an appearance in one of my upcoming models, too (with full credit given, of course!) (...) I thought the clear doors represented the frosted-glass that a lot of showers use. Dave! (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Paul Hanson

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Paul Hanson
(...) I leave that in your capable hands... (...) I've got a mixed-gender crew too, but sometimes you have to use the parts you've got. A little more privacy would be nice, but hey, this crew is all professionals :-) (...) Thanks for the feedback! (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Bob Hayes
Paul, I love this vehicle. I have always wanted to build something like this, but everytime I start it becomes something that I don't want to finish. I will be studying your pictures closely. Great Job! Thanks for sharing it. Bob (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Kyle Keppler
Wow! That's just very cool! I love the wheeled version! A big box on some big wheels with lots of odd projections makes it look very nice! The modularity is also great! And all that detail! Wow! Kyle (...) (23 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Paul Hanson
(...) Not really - I like things that move & do stuff, & bases just kinda, you know, sit there. Besides, I like to think of a big ship as a base that can move - it arrives somewhere and the crew & equipment come out of it to do their work. When (...)         Re: New MOC: Planetary Exploration Vehicle "Odyssey" —Paul Hartzog
Paul, wish i had enough bulk blox to build bigger stuff :-( despite the "I'm a big box" look and feel it looks like it SHOULD be a big box, like it was the best design for this craft. meanwhile, i won't repeat all the great things everyone else has (...)
