Wot no RCX power connector? —Kevin Bracey
When did this vanish then? All the online information I can find says that the RCX has a 6-12V AC power connector. My one that I bought this weekend doesn't :( (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Wot no RCX power connector? —Mike Kory
I just bought a second RCX (version 1.5., on sale at K's Merchandise here in Illinois for $155). I just checked--it doesn't have a power connector either! :( Mike Kory Kevin Bracey <kevin.bracey@pacemicro.com> wrote in message (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Wot no RCX power connector? —S. Crawshaw
Does this mean that RIS 1.0s are going to rapidly become *more* valuable than RIS 1.5s?! Stuart PS That seems a very cheap price - I thought they were $210? (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Wot no RCX power connector? —Mike Kory
I just pulled out my receipt. It was $155.97. That's 20% off their normal price. I bought the last one at my store here in Champaign, Illinois. I don't know where the other stores are. If I remember correctly, they had the Droid system for about (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Wot no RCX power connector? —Ralph Hempel
(...) My guess is it vanished after they got too many "defective" units back after folks started putting adapters with the wrong voltage on their bricks. Even a wired voltage spike might kill the brick. The battery route is safer from a product (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Wot no RCX power connector? —S. Crawshaw
(...) Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean that TLG have effectively been lying if they claimed that the RCX unit itself is still the RCX 1.0? It seems like it may be worthwhile complaining (does anyone know an email address for (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Wot no RCX power connector? —Kevin Bracey
(...) It still says "RCX 1.0" on it. It appears identical in all regards to pictures I've seen online, except the end opposite the IR transceiver is totally smooth and blank, and there are two extra studs on top above where the socket was. That end (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Wot no RCX power connector? —Ralph Hempel
(...) I'm not sure if its worth complaining about...operationally its still the same product even if you can't plug it into a wall wart. I'm more concerned with any changes to the ROM. Perhaps Kekoa can shed some light on this if someone was to ship (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Wot no RCX power connector? —Kekoa Proudfoot
(...) I doubt there will be significant changes to the ROM. For starters, if somebody has both an old and a new RCX, try downloading the old firmware into the new RCX. If it works, the ROM interface is the same. If the ROM interface is the same, it (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Wot no RCX power connector? —Ralph Hempel
(...) I've read that the end where the power connector was is "thinner" which is OK since the connector was mounted on the component side and would have added to the hight required. The "smoothing caps" could be eliminated in a battery only design, (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Wot no RCX power connector? —Kevin Bracey
(...) I don't think so - it looks the same shape as the pictures of RIS 1.0 RCXs I've seen. I doubt they would change the external shape as it would cause problems with plans in expansion kits etc. I expect there's just a lot of empty space inside.          Re: Wot no RCX power connector? —Markus L. Noga
(...) Interesting enough, I once withdrew the power connector on a unit under full load - sensors, motors, everything on - because the task manager had gone into an endless loop. After duly waiting a couple of seconds, I reinserted the plug. Blue (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Wot no RCX power connector? —Dave Baum
(...) Another guess - again pure speculation - is tha having an external adapter option made certification more difficult in one of the non-U.S. markets. I believe 1.5, aside from being an update for U.S., is also going to become the (...) (25 years ago, 20-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

The Scout (from the Robotics Discovery System) doesn't have a power connector either. It is quite possible that the decision to remove the power connector from Mindstorms products was made during the development of the Scout. There was only a single (...)         Re: Wot no RCX power connector? —Kevin Loch
Was that a 1.0 or 1.5? I'm hoping it's just the 1.5's, since there are still 1.0's around. I can't believe there wouldn't be an option for wall power (even with a funky idiot connector to prevent overvoltage). What about models that have large (...)          Re: Wot no RCX power connector? —Ben Williamson
(...) It's exactly that - a RIS 1.0 with a sticker on the front. I just got one, and it's the original kit of parts and an RCX with the power connector. The reason for putting stickers on old boxes is to avoid stalling sales from people who really (...) (25 years ago, 19-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)
