Think microscout - everything is integrated. 4.5v motors, built-in touch
sensor and light sensor. SO.........when you see that something like the
Droid Development set was going for $39 thru SAH (and $29 at TRU) with LOTS
more Technic parts (including beams) I find it hard to say that this is a
great price point. Let's be real. THe touch sensors, light sensors and
motors ALL cost far less to make than their retail prices. Considering that
RIS 1.5 sets were going for $100-149, there was far more value there.
THe parts that come with the one set that I bought were disappointing. The
box is oversized by a factor of 3. I have to go along with the comments
that lack of USB support is unfathomable - especially when TLC specifically
recommends AGAINST using a USB to serial converter and lists a bunch that do
NOT work.
Not having a serial port on this computer - or my laptop, I will have to put
off testing. I was disappointed in the CD for everything approach. SOme
written documentation would be nice. I hope TLC has some further
documentation online.
I have to say that I was eagerly anticipating these sets but am disappointed
at first look. I hope this product leaves a better impression after I get
to try it out with a serial cable. If these units ARE programmable, they
might be of some use. Frankly, I don't understand the point of going to
these units instead of following through on the "upgrade" to the RDS sets.
I suppose these are supposed to be more "playable" but I wonder........
